I was doing research for a paper I have to write (not having to do with Lucy in any way) and I happened to come across information from an Australian cultural critic, who "describes the effect in her family as the raucous, relentless voice of Lucille Ball drove her father to distraction, yet delighted her mother and herself. Such shows were viewed with alarm by many as evidence of an increasing Americanization of Australian society and a destruction of Australia's connection with the proper authority of things British. But Lucy's voice...had a potentially galvanizing and emancipating effect for Australian women. As screaming hysteric, a woman 'out-of-control' in language and body, she was 'one of the first signs of a growing sense that women making a lot of noice did not need to be confined to the harem-like rituals of morning and afternoon tea, or the washing up'.
I thought that was kind of cool. Lucy had a greater affect on so many cultures than some people know. |

Interesting. Sorta like Lucy was Gloria Steinem without trying.

Don't you love when you come across Lucy mentions when you're not even looking for them? And don't you wish you could write a research paper on Lucy? How easy would that research be?

Yes, i dunno if Americans are aware that their CULTURE travels the world, and some countries resent it, i totally agree that Lucy changed things around the world also, my God, the show was banned in Saudi Arabia because Lucy was not subserviant enough to Ricky, no wonder they still stone people over there, they need to see Lucy to get their act together. She DID change the way people think and act and that special quality of knowing ANYTHING IS POSSIBBLE that Lucy Ricardo had.

It was nice because most of the sources I used were my own books, although I probably could've written a lot of the paper from memory.

I had to write a research paper on Lucy in 8th grade. It ended up being 19 pages, and I wrote it from memory, lol. The presentation lasted for 40 minutes since I read my whole essay then showed some of my collection to the class. Everyone was practically asleep and I got a B- since it was so long (I was pretty mad at the teacher for that, lol). My friends still won't let me live that one down.
