Anyone here remember the great mystery soap The Edge of Night? I wish soapnet would show it again instead of those old tired nighttime soaps. It always had so many good mystery stories. Maybe one day they will release it on DVD like they are with Dark Shadows.

Edge of Night was the first soap I remember. There was a great murder mystery about who shot wacko villainess Stephanie Martin, with Nicole Travis accused of the crime.

While EON was inspired by "Perry Mason" it in turn inspired at least partially many of the crime procedural shows that follow the cops, lawyers, detectives, and court workers (such as the SVU shows) as well as any show with a mystery that is serialized.
The show is badly missed and was IMO the best "soap" ever. I wish some of the networks that air older programs - I know one is airing the old soap "the Doctors"- would pick it up. Most of the episodes prior to a certain point - many of the shows best years- were destroyed, lost or taped over. However, there is a syndicated run out there that USA Network used to show in late night. If the show were brought back today it would be a huge hit from looking at the success of shows that followed the similar format. I'd love to see it as a night-time soap like "Dallas". Since Proctor and Gamble own the show and probably still have the copyright it would be easier to start a new show that is similar since the show has been gone sine the mid-80's and the name value is dimished to today's audiences. EON was always able to be "adult" for the years it aired but with today's climate they could have more elaborate subject matter. I wish Netflix or Amazon would consider such a show airing 1 or 2 episodes a week in a serial format. |

Yes. I loved the Edge of Night. My favorite Edge of Night couple was/is Star and Calvin Stoner. They were so romantic and beautiful together. Love them!
I also liked Calvin/Didi. Calvin had great chemistry with both Star and Didi. |
