Rhoda's Wedding Episode - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I think i read somewhere that this episode was Promoted in a big way in TV Guide back in 1974. One of the most hyped up episodes in TV History. Does anyone know if this is true?

The New York Times Sunday Magazine Section 10/74 did a whole piece on Rhoda's Marriage. I am sure the TV guide has something as well. Yes it was big TV news. Why? Not sure.

I think i heard it was because viewers were used to seeing the Rhoda character having bad luck with men and the fact that she was getting married made it big news.

BTW:welcome to the Boards and you must still have that 1974 issue of the New york Times for to remember that.

Of course Rhoda getting married was a big deal - for 4 years she was THE eternally love starved single young lady wanting to meet her prince. People related to that, so of course they would tune in to see her finally march down the aisle.

Rhoda and Joe got married in October 1974, same as my folks!! I'm happy to say that while the fictional marriage failed, my folks are still married today. YAY!

It was a big event, alot of people tuned in to see it. Rhoda finally getting hitched.

I think a lot of sitcom producers will learn from this ep and never marry two characters in the BEGIINING of a series. That's what finales are for-lol

But the thing is, producers, or more likely, the NETWORKS, never learn.
