and if you do not have it in your collection he refuses to trade with you?-LOL I only had 4 Original Broadcasts with Commercials and we traded and it all went well. Then i just needed one more episode from him and since i traded away all my original airings, do you know he refused to copy one episode for me after I told him i would send my own blank tape and a $3.85 money order. Is this guy crazy or what? If you have no ORIGINAL BROADCASTS then he has no need to talk with you. To only look for Original Airings with Commercials from the 1970's and 1980's in the year of 2004 is Strange.

Uncommon? Yes. Strange? No more so than any of our wants, depending on your personal tastes. It is an interesting approach to this hobby and I think it's neat and refreshing.

So what you're really saying is that you're upset because you don't have what he wants, as if that is somehow his fault.

I think the onus is on you is to find what he wants from another source so that you can trade with him. Complaining about what his wants are and calling him crazy is uncalled for and not very nice. Especially after a successful trade that you, apparently, are happy with. Moreover, it is not helping you get what it is you want.

I didnt see a vcr until like 82 maybe 83 in someones house. Would love to see someone with tvshows that they rec from then,must be beta... And I grew up in the 70's..Disco ruled..but I never liked it..

There is nothing wrong with it if you can find someone to do it for you. There was a terribly long thread about this last week where CBFan wanted a show taped for him/her for nothing but a blank tape and postage. That may be your point, but you did not use "lucky" in your post. You said his wants were "strange" and that he was "crazy". Those are personal attacks and are quite different from being "lucky".

Besides, a VCR is not required to get these shows. I don't know how it's done, but I know people with shows w/o/c going back to the 50s and 60s so that rules out VCRs of any kind. Must be from prints with the commercials intact instead of the "Place Commercial Here" break. The bottom line is, the stuff IS out there, and the onus is still on you to stop complaining about what this guy wants and go out there and find it, if you want him to trade with you.

As mentioned in my first post in this thread, I have (read: collect) crime dramas. But since there's a special place in my heart for the Partridge Family I do have that sitcom. And yes, I have an episode w/o/c from 1970, pre-VCR.

I have found out that alot 70's type shows,that haven't been released on vhs/or showed on t.v again..can be found on 8 or 16mm film...with Commercials on them. I did a look at ebay and a few other sites and found some.." wonder why they put commercials on them"

I guess you would have to be hard up for that show,to pay for it..some of those things cost alot..plus if you don't have a projector ..have to buy one ..or pay to put it on video/dvd...but was told you can buy some type of machine that hooks up to the projector and a vcr and do it your self..cheaper than paying someone to do it for ya

Hmm, I once attempted to trade with a person who expected me to give her my originals (well, actually, my roommate's originals), because she didn't want to deal with copies. She not only wanted originals, she wanted originals from the very first run of the show (Hill Street Blues), and she wanted them with the original commercials intact. This was back when HSB was first-run, but already into the second season, I think. With shows from previous years, she wanted the same thing (originals with commercials intact), and she'd watch them on a TV manufactured in that year. She had very specific rituals regarding television watching. (I don't know if costumes were involved, so don't ask ... :>)

I decided that she didn't have anything I wanted bad enough to trade on those terms. There were people who did trade with her, and they made the value judgment that what she had was worth the cost.

It really all boils down to that, doesn't it? Is it worth it? And that's a choice each person has to make for him or herself.

I am one of those in the hobby that would much rather have an original broadcast with the commercials. As opposed to a rebroadcast of better quality. But I will take a rebroadcast if the originals do not exist. And I don't think it is strange.
I mainly collect sporting events on tape. I found this board last Oct. It is a great board. I really can't explain it. But I really like to collect games and shows that are original broadcasts with the commercials. I will settle for originals with out the commercials. And rebroadcasts. But I am just not too crazy about rebroadcasts. Maybe because the original unedited shows and games are hard to find. Or maybe because it just adds to that nastalgic feel to it when I watch it. I mainly collect footage because when I watch it I can almost remember what I was doing when I saw it the 1st time. I get a bunch of flashbacks. And when it has the commercials it is even better. That way I can see it just the way or almost the way I saw it in the past.
About the pre vcr era stuff. I have a ton of games and traded with a lot of traders. I was told that Sony mailed out flyers in 1966 about vcrs they were selling at the time. So you can almost pinpoint the time vcrs were in homes.
As for shows and sporting events surfacing in original broadcast form. There was a vcr tape shortage in the late 60's and early 70's. I think do to the fact blanks were costly back then. The networks would tape over sporting events such as Super Bowl 1 and 2 and others to record daytime Soaps. They might have taped over shows also.
But getting back to the original post for this topic. I would have forced myself to pick a show from the other trader even if it was not the original broadcast. We all know what it is like to really want something in this hobby. 75% of trading is trying to locate the footage. The other 25% is striking up a deal.
For example: I am in a trade now. A trader wants the Happy Days reunion from '92 original broadcast with the commercials from me. But he only has a bunch of rebroadcast shows. So what do I do? I am not going to tell him no deal. He told me he had a hard time trying to locate the reunion show. So I bit the bullet and he let me pick 2 shows from him. Some times it is a little give and take in this hobby. And what goes around comes around. Maybe my next trade will work out more to my liking. But I think we should all try to help each other out.
