Red face Movies that would never get made today

One that sticks out in my mind is "Pretty Baby" with Susan Sarandon and Brooke Shields. Although I never saw the whole movie, Brooke Shields had a very controvercial nude scene in it. Why was it controvercial? She was 12-years old when the film was shot.

Can anyone else think of some more?

Gone with the wind. The portrayal of slaves and slave owners being friends wouldn't fly today.

When you mentioned Pretty Baby being a film that could not be made today, my first thought was of Taxi Driver for similar reasons. But then I started thinking about more recent controversial (or non-PC) films, and most have one thing in common: They're independent. I think just about anything can still be made, but the difference is that the major studios won't touch anything that might be too controversial or unlikely to do well at the box office.

I disagree. That kind of propaganda still sells and I really can't think of single film except for maybe The Birth of a Nation ('15) which can't be given the Hollywood remake treatment.

The greatest film of all time : Treasure of the Sierra Madre....its long, drawn out story of good men going bad over the search for gold, simply is too slow and lacking in car crashes to succeed at the boxoffice today....TOO BAD!! ( Then again, why ruin such a classic by remaking it?? )

Sometimes great dramas are still produced.

Look at movies like American History X, Slingblade, Ulee's Gold, and You Can Count on Me.

The element is still out there, if not a bit stilted, still prevelant in the minds of the classic actors, and they are still hovering about.

Hollywood sucks, yet look to left and right and you might find a movie you will treasure and want to claim as your own.

Its easy, isn't it?
Anything with the absence of drugs, swearing, violence and unnecessary nudity and sex. Thats all the sells nowadays.
