Default Party Time--Syndicated Mamas are Back!

Just letting everyone know that the Chili episode aired today and that means the syndicated Mama's are back!! Just thought I would share my joy with you all. Bubba and Iola are back!

Not putting down the NBC eps, but I just enjoy the syndicated episodes so much more!

I must remember to record "Mama Sees Red" when it comes on. It's time to check TV-Now.com so I can see when it airs...

Thank god!

The NBC episodes are sooooo boring and not funny at all to me.

God, how I love those syndicated episodes. And the chili episode is beyond hilarious! Iola's "spell" was really funny, and I even laughed out loud (which is really unlikely for me) when she left the room to scream.

Yeesh, sorry ya feel that way...one TV reviewer once said the Eunice episodes were among the very best sitcom episodes in television history.

There's more to NBC Mama than meets some fans' eyes.

I liked the one where Bubba, Vint, and Naomi were putting a puzzle together. Iola was sitting next to Aunt Effie and decide to show her how to Knit(can't spell the crou word sorry) Effie and Iola start rolling around on the couch fighting over the needles and Effie takes then and stabs Iola in the leg. I ola stands up and says excuse me and walks outside and shuts the door and screams. Every one turns around and looks like what the? Momma said some after that but could not hear what she said.

I would agree that the NBC episodes are not as good as the synidcated ones (and a few were boring). However, the ones with Eunice and/or Ellen are much better quality than the ones without them. Most of my favorite NBC episodes either have Eunice and/or Ellen in them. On the other hand, I love almost all the syndicated episodes! I thought Vint and Naomi especially were so much stronger in the syndicated episodes. All of those episodes were hilarious without guest stars.

Waaahh. NBC all the way for me. It needed a third season on NBC before Golden Girls started. And Eunice definitely needed to appear on plenty of the episodes. I will say the NBC part seemed to fall apart in the end though. The episodes were just not up to snuff, and not just because Eunice didn't appear in them either. And did anybody notice the lighting seemed different too? The last few episodes were rather dreary. But they could have picked up the pace in 84-85.

They should've had a 85-86 season, too. Then MF would have been on the air for 8 seasons.

The NBC episodes were really boring for the most part and even the good ones are really dated in jokes and especially in the way they were filmed (GOD! Seasons 3-6 looked soooo much better). The characters were just not as funny and the episodes were a different style and fit together a lot worse.

I do like the episode "Rashomama."

I actually thought they were weaker. lol Their characterizations were weakened and simplified, nowhere near as complex as in the NBC episodes. Naomi had more of a backbone, she had more spunk, Vint was smarter, sometimes had a male ego...don't get me wrong, I do love Vint 'n Naomi, I just liked 'em more in the NBC years characetrization-wise.

But in the case of Naomi's spunk and backbone, I do realize that's a natural progression of living with someone like Mama that you just eventually learn to back down and find it easier to "go with the flow" than to fight at every turn.

I find it so odd that some fans find some/all of the NBC shows boring. One of my theories on this is they haven't known people like the characters. Some of that script-writing was so real---particularly Mama!

I'm bumping this back up to announce that TBS is now up to the mid-1986-87 season...That is, the 3rd season. They start airing episodes from the 4th season (1987-88) next Tuesday.

Thanks for the clarification. I am currently busily recording away. I have 3 full tapes so far (48 episodes). I am now recording on my fourth tape. I can't wait until I have all of the episodes!

By the end of next week, I'll have pretty much every episode except for:

Alien Marriage
Mama's Girls
Mama Gets the Bird
Hawaii (Part 2)
Ladies Choice
Bedtime for Bubba
Very Dirty Dancing
Tri-State's Most Wanted
A Blast from the Past
Mama Fights Back

I'll get them soon though...
