This came from a few things...Fran=Lucy, the discussion in the People! thread, and my own thinking. Me, think?
![]() Anyway, do you think that The Nanny is truly the "ILL of the 90s?", as was quoted at tvtome.com. Mingle and discuss. Here's a lame similarity. You got Lucy and Fran...who both married foreigners, Cuban and English respetively.

Well here is my thoughts on this:
We all know there was ONLY ONE LUCY and the will always be ONLY ONE LUCY. Like it has been discussed in other threads and I am sure it has been discussed on other Lucy member boards, I beleive there are similarities with I Love Lucy and The Nanny, just like there are with Lucy and Dharma of Dharma and Greg. Both jenna Elfman and Fran Drescher are HUGE fans of Lucy. Like Lucy had Clara Bow, and Ginger Rodgers and Carole Lombard, Lucy had become an institution (Lucy BTW hated to be called that) to many young stars today. Every now and then you will see an interview or watch a show that will have someone saying or emulating something that Lucy would do. It doesn't mean that it is the next I love Lucy or The Neo Lucy. That will never happen. But because Lucy had inspired so much young talent and so many people are awed by her many contributions to the Television medium, a lot was rubbed off in that aspect. I have seen many interviews, Shelly Long (Cheers), Candice Bergan, MTM, Debra Messing, Jenna Elfman, Fran Drescher, I am sure the list goes on. Many have said that Lucy had inspired them in so many ways. I have seen the Lucy scheme ( by scheme, I mean common thread, not plotting to get into Ricky's act) In the Nanny as I have in Laverne and Shirley, Dharma and Greg, Will and Grace. The Lucy magic lives within the actors through her inspiration. But there will never be another Lucy. Just one. As desi Arnaz said "I Love Lucy is something that only happens ONCE in a life time, IF you are lucky to have it happen, AT ALL". No one could re-create the chemistry that Lucy, Desi, Bill, and Viv had together. Even if they did, it would be so lacklucter. However the young talented stars of today could very much bring their own spark to the table and make it work in a new light. |

Same here, love Fran but not the show so much, do you see it rerun all over the place, NO! But, it WAS funny and she was great! I agree about Will and Grace. THAT show will last a long time in reruns. But the fact that Fran LOVED Lucy makes me WANT to side with HER though! LOL!
