Discussion of the Episode "Surprise Party" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

When i first saw this episode i was very entertained in the beginning. Donna, Rollo, Esther, Grady, Lamont,and Bubba are all waiting for Fred to return from St. Louis. Then Fred comes through the door Fred insults Rollo, Bubba, and then Esther. Then Fred tells Esther to put a clear piece of plastic on her face and says it's her Halloween Mask.

But after that, the rest of the episode is Boring. Fred is drunk, We don't see Bubba or Rollo again and Grady and Fred both think they are not needed by Lamont. I quickly lost interest. Anyone else agree?

The part of the party itself was hilarious. Especially when Fred was handing out all those cheap gifts. I love when Fred and Esther were fighting and Fred stops the action and the entire rooms freezes for a second while Fred yanks Esther's party hat!! Priceless!!

That's what i meant to say. Only the Party was entertaining, after the party was over, so was the episode.

The part when Fred comes back drunk and thinks that Esther is a horse is pretty funny.

I agree that the opening of this episode is probably the most consistently funny 12 or so minutes ever in Sanford and Son. After the party it just falls flat.

Then right after that, Fred says to Rollo-"You want some more" ZIP, BAM, BOOM, somebody get this n***gr out my room-LOL
