These two are the leaders of their respective teams, CSI Las Vegas and CSI Miami. I have been watching CSI Miami since the first season ended and reruns were aired over the summer. It is hard for me to choose which one is better because they are both good in their own ways. Instead, I'll focus on those show's leaders.
Gil Grissom He's more of a team player to me than Caine. This is one difference between the teams in Las Vegas and Miami. In Miami, the members of the crime lab are more independent-minded. He is calm, cool, and somewhat witty. He also quotes stuff from proverbs, movies, TV shows, and stuff. He's also very smart and is more into the science than Caine. Horatio Caine I like Grissom but I like Horatio Caine better. He is different than Grissom in that he is more of an overseer and a supervisor than he is. His demeanor, his personality, and his low voice are really distinctive and he makes it known to those around him. The reason I like Caine better than Grissom is not only because he confronts suspects more than Grissom but the way he does it. He is intimidating and very confrontational. He plays the cop well during questioning (actually he is a cop, a Lieutenant) and his presence gives the suspects a false sense of security. His wisecracks are great. Like this line when asked by a suspect if he could have his ring (which, with his fist, was used as a murder weapon) back. "Yes. In about 75 years." And in an episode a couple of weeks ago, when an armored car robber foolishly tried to shoot him only to be shot to death. "They never listen." |

I like Grissom better. He's so laid back. And when he doesn't approved he'll stare you down!

I like Grissom better. I don't know maybe it has to do with him be the orginal CSI. You know the one that made it what it is? I mean he's not the only one's the wrighters, and the other cast, and the creaters have a lot to do with it...but In general I like the first one better.

Caine for me, but they're like chalk and cheese, Grissom is a science nerd and a master of deduction who seems happy to live in his lab and leave the police work to Det Brass whereas Horation Caine seems like he runs the whole Miami-Dade police force! He seems to have almost limitless resources and people under his command, but what makes me laugh is despite that he still has to tell his underlings when to bag something or take a photo. If I were Rick Berman trying to come up with the next Star Trek, I'd peg Caruso as my captain because he has that real Me Me Me quality that Shatner had on trek, it makes for Barnstorming television!

MAC TAYLOR!
Uh... oh... that's NY, huh? Too soon to tell with that one. Heh! Grissom vs Caine.............. Horatio Caine. Yes, indeed. Caine is the boss. He acts like the boss. He's a former bomb-squad cop, with nerves of steel. But he has a tremendous sensitivity, allowing him to deal with the victims' families. A "people person," unlike Grissom. Grissom is a teacher. He frequently turns the day's work into a classroom-like exercise. Problem with that is, his staff are not in school anymore. I don't know about anyone else, but that would really irk me if I felt like I was being constantly "tested" by my supervisor. |

I have always liked Grissom even if he is quirky. But you are very astute, Misty Eyes. Grissom's parental educator routine is getting a bit old, in the beginning it was ok, but I think that the other team members have a right to whine when he does treat them like rookies, which he still does occasionally. I have gotten tired of when he does this and then the other characters react negatively to this behavior. I can sympathize with their "you don't trust me" response, but I think the whole team needs to move on from this constant tension. I know I couldn't work for someone who was constantly telling me how I should do my job, even if it is my boss. As a professional (I am a teacher) I expect a certain level of professional trust from my supervisors. I would resent being treated like a first year teacher after all the years I have put into teaching. Gil Grissom needs to trust his team more, and if he does, he needs to let them know it in a better way, even if he doesn't have the best people skills. Kinda makes you wonder how he got the job. It was interesting this past week when Catherine came to him to find out if he put in a good word for her application for the day supervisor job. One thing he told her was that she needed to be able to relate well with the people under her..... and I thought to myself, "Yeah, and you should take your own advice!" LOL Don't get me wrong, I still like Grissom, but his lack of people skills does get a bit on my nerves. He is a wonderful scientist, tho! |

However, that may have also been the case with Horatio as well. We didn't actually see how Caine got the job, but I got the very strong impression that Megan Donner (Kim Delaney) had been the head of the unit and that Horatio became the boss when she left the job after her husband died. That was a cause of tension in the first episodes of Miami: the "staff" had problems remembering that Megan was no longer the boss. Even Megan had that problem. David Caruso: It seems people either love him or hate him. I can see where some of his acting characteristics can have a grating effect on viewers. But he is so intuitive with his performances that I can't help but become entranced by him. |

And Misty eyes, I really can't say what it is about David Caruso, but I just don't get him. I don't think he is a bad actor, per se, but I just don't relate to him. And to respond to your quote: Quote:

Like I said, Caruso is one of those actors that either does impress you or does not. There seem to be few viewers who simply "like" him.
In the role of Horatio, I see a lot of my own mannerisms. I work in accounting, as analytical a line of work as is forensics. I find myself, and other co-workers, often talking as we are thinking out a methodology for something or other. We go to one another with the intent of asking for some opinion or input in some work we are handling. We kind of ask questions as we go along with our thought process, and frequently answer those questions ourselves. David Caruso seems to have done his homework. He sounds just like us! Yet he doesn't do this in other roles I've seen him in, so it isn't merely his acting style.
