Does anyone here have a car that has ONSTAR available in it?
I hear commercials on the radio for it all the time and I'd be interested in knowing how it works - costs, etc. I can't consider getting it even though I have a GM car but I'm just curious about it

My grandpa has it in his Cadillac. I don't think it costs anything, it came with the car. He rarely uses it(he doesn't get lost). Most of the time he just tests it out in case the car ever tears up.
It's a small thing above the rear view mirror, you press a button and an operator comes on and tells you exactly where you are on the road. It can also help if your car breaks down. |

My GM is either too old or too cheap for onstar.
I think it came out after 98.

Here ya go... Have a read. I don't drive, so of course I don't have it. But it looks great for emergencies. And it allows for hands-free telephone calls also.
http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp...atisonstar.jsp It looks like it has a monthly subscription cost in addition to whatever the original cost is for the hardware. |

I can see this system being effective when you lock your keys in the car or break down, or if you have a 1-car accident and your airbag deploys and maybe are knocked unconscious, but OMG, those radio commercials are so stupid!! I mean one lady calling up to report an accident and a man is going into a seizure. Why can't see just call 911 herself?!!! She's wasting valuable time. What, does she think that if she calls 911 herself, they won't believe her, they need to actually hear from a Onstar representative? Same goes for the guy who find a 4-year old girl wandering around. He calls Onstar first instead of 911. Please!! I don't get it. Am I missing something? Maybe I don't fully understand the system.

I heard it was $250 a month, one of the radio DJ's around here had it and got rid of it because it was too expensive and he never used it.

what's so hard to understand about it?Lets say you are alone driving and you lose control of a car and hit a tree or a pole or something and nobody sees you and you are unconscious. How the hell is that cell phone gonna help you? Onstar will know you've been in an accident and will call 911. Get it now? |
