Default Did I RUIN my DVD player by doing this?

I had a habit of leaving the DVD player on all the time so i could just go to a certain episode of a show. Then when i was done with the episode, i would just hit stop and never turn off the DVD player. So now of all a sudden, the DVD player won't come on and the DISC inside won't eject. So is this DVD Player finished?

Uhhh....I wouldn't think leaving it on all the time would do that unless it overheated. Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in? I have to do that to mine sometimes.

Try doing what DawsonGirl said. That's what my VCR used to do when I left it on too long.

Well I've always been told that leaving a DVD in all the time isn't good for the DVD player, same with a VCR. It possibly could be overheating, so unplug it, then go to the store and get a DVD cleaner to clean the heads on the DVD Player, cause of the dust and stuff that can build up inside, that can help too

Maybe a minute or two. Or overnight if you're asleep anyway.

None of the three VCR's I have has gone an extended period of time without a tape in it, and the 2 actively used ones ALWAYS have a tape in them, and I've had them now for...

VCR 1 - Ten Years (Semi-Retired)
VCR 2 - Five Years
VCR 3 - Two Years.

Just depends on the VCR I guess

depends on :

- how dusty is it, and just how hot did it get ?

- how cheap was it, and

- how long ago did the warranty expire ?

Well it died, left it unplugged all night and still would not come on this morning. Also the disc inside never came out so i have to buy a new DVD player today. I don't nowif it had anything to do with being cheap since i left it on all the time. I do remember telling my mom to buy me the CHEAPEST DVD player she can find because i didn't want her to spend that much money bu i don't think the price had anything to do with it.

This happened to be before.... but luckily i had a warranty to replace it (it was within 90 days)....

before you shoot the old DVD player out, keep trying to get the disc out.
turning it on/off.... on/off.... on/off over and over again may cause it to spontaneously open.... grab the disc.... and get rid of the DVD player.
especially if the episode you were watching happens to be "The Jeffersons"

I took a risk of getting an electric shock by opening up the DVD player so i could get the disc out. The disc has a small scracth on it so i will see if the eps are ok when i buy the new DVD player today.
