Default Annoying Thing Ward & June Did

Is there anything that Ward and June ever did in punishing or scolding the boys that ever annoyed you and you didn't see the point ? I always hated how they made the boys attend social functions against their will and how they freaked over the least little thing. Like the time Beaver had to tell his teacher that he had seen the test he took before because he used an old one of Wally's to study by and didn't know it would be the same test. And let's not forget Beaver having to sell the sports car he won in a contest and wearing the monster sweatshirt to school. Compared to things going on in the world today, Ward & June should have been lucky to have to boys that were so well behaved.

I haven't seen every episode but I can say that the episode where June gets trippy because The Beav wouldn't eat his brussel sprouts was somewhat far fetched but I think for the most part Ward and June are very decent and understanding parents. As for the social events they were forced to attend, I think that was more June's doing because of her upbringing or it could have been just the way things were back then.

I too think June getting mad because of the brussel sprouts was really far-fetched and stupid. And every time June got upset because she found a girl's number in Wally's jacket. I have friends and family that grow pot in thier backyards...Compared to kids today i think Beaver and Wally were perfect angels and they really never did anything wrong, except for Beaver who gave june the silent treatment. But...like Desilu #1 said...That could have been how it was back then.

Ward and June couldn't have known how young people were today, because they didn't live today. I think parents of every generation always think the young people of each era behave badly!

As for June in the "brussels sprout" episode, I can hardly stand to watch it! She was way over the top, and I think Ward thought so too!

Another annoying thing they both did was deprive the boys of any privacy whatsoever! I am from roughly the same era and my parents never searched my room, and barged in if the door was shut!

Ok...if Ward thought she was over the top my question is....Why didn't he put his foot down with her? He was the man of the house wasn't he? And don't say it wasn't written that way I already know that.

Being a dominating "man of the house" wasn't in Ward's character, I don't think. Remember he said he was going for a walk or something.

I agree June was over the top and the snippy way she acted with Ward as well. I have always been under the impression that women didn't do that back then. So I just felt that since the writers made June over react to the brusel sprouts issue than they should have pushed the envelope a little and have Ward put his foot down especially when she threatened to take away the football game. And I think he was the typical "man of the house" he just seemed to back down there and I couldn't understand why. It was also a possibility that he was so angry that he went for the walk instead of further upsetting her because he is always so considerate of her feelings.

That's right, he was very considerate of her feelings. I think that is the biggest misinterpretation people have about LITB. To a casual viewer Ward comes off as being really gruff and stern, when he's actually pretty soft hearted.

OTOH, many people think June is so sweet and demure, but in reality she could be pretty demanding!

I didn't like how June would make dates for Wally, like telling some girls mother "I'm sure Wally would love to take your daughter to the dance" She should have consulted with Wally first before making those kinds of decisions.

Red face

In a few episodes when someone called for Wally and Beaver on the phone, Ward or June would pick it up and make an excuse for them. I also didn't like when they looked in Beaver's diary.

Related to the "Brussels Sprouts" "fiasco," I think June went way overboard in the "Wally's Haircomb," episode, where Wally sported that 'jelly roll' looking haircut.

While I am having difficulty citing specific episodes, I think Ward sometimes went way overboard in getting angry at either Wally or Beaver about stuff.

To me "way overboard" happened in my house. I would have given anything for parents like Ward and June.

I hear ya...same here!

One thing I didn't understand and I guess it goes back to lack of privacy,I don't know why they didn't let Wally have the "guest room".I mean if you have the extra room,I think a teen boy would've appreciated his own "space",to do whatever teen boys do...
