Default "A Campin' We Will Go"

I have a couple of nitpicks about this episode. This is the episode during the first season when the Bradys go camping.

The station wagon is parked in the driveway. The kids get in, but instead of using the side doors, they all crawl in through the back door. Also, they make poor Alice sit in the back with the luggage.

While they are still sitting in the driveway, Cindy whispers in Carol's ear that she has to go to the bathroom. Carol says, "Cindy, why didn't you go before we left???" Carol, you haven't left yet. The car is still in the driveway and you haven't moved an inch.

Here's another weird Brady food combination: fried chicken and cold cuts. Wouldn't potato salad go better with chicken??? Notice how everyone went for the chicken and nobody ate the cold cuts.

There's a lot of weird stuff in that episode. Like when Carol goes to get the basket of food and opens it. Nothing is wrapped, and everything is sitting on plates -- what a weird way to pack food! Everything would have fallen all over the place during the car trip. There was no time to put all the food on plates in between the time Carol said, "Wait right here" and when she brought the basket back. Strange.

Most of the nighttime scenes were clearly filmed during the day with filters on the camera to make things look darker. Guess the kids couldn't stay out that late to film.

Virtually all the dialogue during the outdoor scenes was looped; in other words, the actors re-recorded their lines in the studio after filming. It gives the dialogue a very phony feel to it. Florence Henderson is particularly bad at this, especially when she rubs her stomach and says she's looking forward to "all that fresh fish!". Listen closely the next time this episode airs, and you'll hear what I mean. The sound quality must have been really terrible to necessitate ALL dialogue to be looped; I bet the background noise (like crickets, wind, etc.) completely obliterated the original dialogue.

There is no way the girls' little bear cutout would have made that huge shadow on the tent.

Yeah, that was dumb how the food was sitting out loose on plates. They wouldn't pack it in ice for the long trip?

Plus,I'm pretty sure MIke and the boys would've known about the food ahead of time...surely Alice fried the chicken the night before or that morning.Didnt the guys see the picnic basket in the car???

Default I know it sounds silly

But I remember one of the earliest times I saw that episode as a kid, I was kind of offended when Greg referred to fried chicken as "sissy food", being that I always love fried chicken. It was later on that I realized it was meant in the context of roughing it when going camping, that prepared fried chicken wasn't the type of thing they'd take with them.

Alice was sitting in the back with the luggage, so maybe she was sitting on the picnic basket.

That doesn't sound very appetizing!

I remember when Cindy had fallen in the water, Alice was carrying her and said," I have to get this mermaid out of her wet clothes. "Mermaids do not need to get out of their clothes after being in water.

So you're saying that Alice really believed Cindy was a mermaid? Interesting theory.

And why did Carol start talking with a slight southern accent when they were camping? This annoyed me

Carol's voice was all over the place during the first few episodes. During the episode where Alice quits, at the end of the episode when Alice decides to stay, Mike is saying some flattering things about Alice. Carol, with an accent that made her sound like the queen of England says, "Daaahling, stop, you're embaaaarrassing huuur."

Speaking of bad sound in Brady eps, a couple of final season eps, Out of This World and The Hustler, sound as though the attic and carport scenes were filmed at a drive-in, or recorded at one. The actors' voices seem to echo badly. Has anyone else noticed that?

Yes, in the Hustler episode, the sound is very bad in the car port scenes...

I think that episode was always like that... Wonder why the powers that be just let it go?
