Smile Charles Reunion

I remember thinking back during the mid-90's that there should be a CIC reunion someday. The odds are that this will never happen, but you never know. What I was always most curious about is how they would do it? Would the reunion be with the Pembrokes or the Powells? This would probably depend a mostly on who they could to get to return. I think that they should try to use both casts. Anyone have any interesting ideas on how they could do thi.? I've never been able to come up with anything that would work.

Yeah, but the problem is how to include members of each cast in it. Of course you are going to have Charles and Buddy, there is no question there. I think that maybe the story could deal with Charles getting married to Gwendolyn. Then all the Pembrokes and Powells would be guests at the wedding. This is the only story I can think of that could logically include members of both casts. And I would love to see Charles get married to Gwendolyn. Of course, if I was writing the script myself I would base a character on myself and have him married to Lila!

No, no. I would not have Charles marry Lila. That would be weird.
Charles would be marrying Gwendolyn. I would write a character based uoun myself and that character would be married to Lila.

That would be cool. The only problem I see is that while I realize people can marry at any age, it would be hard to fathom Charles and Gwendolyn waited 20 years to get married. Unless it's a case they both were married to someone else and are now divorced and realized they were meant for each other. They had Gwendolyn come back from California and have Charles propose to her during the syndicated run, so i'm sure they could re-do something like that. That's the magic of TV; anything is possible.

Another problem I could see is getting the casts together again.
I don't believe Jennifer Runyon does any acting anymore. For being together only one season, Scott Baio and Jennifer had an excellent chemistry about them. It would be kind of weird to see someone else play Gwendolyn. But, then again, anything's possible. Maybe she'd come back for a one-time reunion like this.

Getting everyone back would be a real problem. First you have the problem that April Lerman (Lila), Jonathan Ward (Douglas),
Michael Pearlman (Jason), Alexander Polinsky (Adam), Jennifer Runyon (Gwendolyn), and Sandra Kerns (Mrs. Powell) are no longer acting. Julie Cobb, who played Mrs. Pembroke, refused to return to the series in 1986, so she probably isn't going to now. James Widdows, who palyed Mr. Pembroke, is a television director now, and no longer acts. And from an interview I read with Nicole Eggert (Jamie), I don't think she'll be stepping on the same soundstage with Scott Baio anytime soon. So if there was a CIC reunion, you would only have Scott Baio (Charles), Willie Aames (Buddy), Josie Davis (Sarah) and James Callahan (Grandpa).

he does that bible man stuff and i dont think he really wants to act anymore...but i bet if al burton contacted all of them and talked to the whole cast, he could get them back, atleast the powells...oh and by the way scott baio was a dick to nicole eggert and even tho i like scott baio as an actor, id just like to let nicole know, that if i ever see scott on the street, ill kick his ass for what he did to her...(haha lol)

Yeah, Nicole mentioned that. She did not deserve to be treated that way. I hear that Scott's getting married! Maybe he learned the evil of his ways. One can only hope.

You know, that's a gauge of knowing when a show has great chemistry among its cast. It's when you think everything you see on TV is real and forget that they were just actors portraying characters; that the way all of them were on TV carried over to how they were when the cameras turned off. You forget those people had real lives.

Like a person would think if they did do a reunion that all of the cast members would show up and do it because they're a "family." When in reality, they aren't and the actors who played those characters have gone on to do other things in their lives. In fact, I'm sure many of them lost touch with one another after the series ended.

And for the CBS cast to show that kind of chemistry in just one season is remarkable.

I totally agree. When I said anything is possible in my post I meant from a writing standpoint they can make any kind of storyline they want to suit the purpose of doing a reunion show, because that's the magic of television; anything's possible.

But, from a casting standpoint, as far as getting a group of people together that resembles anything we'd be expecting in a Charles in Charge reunion show will never happen. That's where the anything's possible thought goes out the window.

While anything's possible with the writing, you can't say the same for the casting, whether you're talking the CBS cast or the syndicated cast. And if that's the case, a reunion show isn't even worth doing.

Yeah, I totally agree. And if they could not do the reunion with members of both casts, they shoudn't do it at all. I also can't imagine there being a CIC True Hollywood Story either, because the series seemes to have a happy set, so there isn't anyting to really talk about. It isn't like Diff'rent Strokes where you had Todd Bridges being accused of murder and Dana Plato's drug problem.
