Default Dallas and Dynasty

Okay.. just discovered that I've had Soapnet on our channel lineup a couple of days ago. I'm 19 going on 20 in a few months. I've heard so much about Dallas and Dynasty from my mom and various tv specials. I just want to know if these are worth watching. First off, I want to know who killed... is it John Ross Ewing, JR? And I want to know how much of a bitch (can I say that in reference to a character on tv?) Alexis Carrington was.

They are both good shows. JR was never killed. He was shot by his sister-in-law Kristen after their affair had gone bad and Alexis was one of the great villians of prime-time tv.

I thought when JR was shot it was the last episode of Dallas. I never knew that it continued after that.. Larry Hagman is a terrific actor and I only seen him in I Dream of Jeannie. What made him go from comedy to drama?

It sounds like Alexis is definitely a bitch.

What is each character's defining moment?

JR and Alexis.

Both Dallas and Dynasty are worth watching, without question. I was hooked on both of those shows from the get-go as a kid, now I watch them on SoapNet.

The cat fights between Alexis and Krystal were priceless.

And, (Shameless plug forthcoming), since you're interested in both Dallas and Dynasty, I'd advise you watch the show that airs between them on the SoapNet schedule, Knots Landing. I

Kristin shot JR. (John Ross Ewing, Jr.) After killing JR, she wound up fleeing to Knots Landing. After leaving THERE, she wound up BACK in Dallas, where she wound up dead in the Swimming Pool, where she was found by Cliff Barnes and...JR.

As for Dynasty, yah, Alexis is a bitch, but, aside from that, I couldn't really tell you that much. I generally turn it to SN at 4:59 (ET).

I never watched Dynasty in its original run. I watched Dallas and Knots Landing. I finally saw all the Dynasty episodes when it was rerunned on fx a few years ago and it was a pretty good show.

I love Dynasty and have seen just about all of it, with the exception of a chunk of season two and season three. It's a pretty good show; the only season I didn't really like was season 8, which was horrid.

Dynasty was at its best (IMO) from seasons 1 through 4 and during season 9. All five were great seasons. Much of the acting in season 1 and season 2 is great, without a single dud in the cast. Pamela Sue Martin (who was on from seasons 1 - 4) often steals the show as Fallon, Blake's bitchy daughter. Season 5 is good, and it ends with the great Moldavian massacre. Unfortunately, the beginning of season six (which is where SOAPnet is now) wasn't very good and they did a bad job wrapping up the Moldavian cliffhanger. The end of season six was good, especially the cliffhanger with the fire at La Mirage. Season 7 was pretty good.

Season 8 was VERY boring. I also hated the new version of the opening credits they began using that year. The plots were just so stupid, especially when Blake (an ex-convict) and Alexis (a British citizen) ran for governor of Colorado. However, season 9 was great. Fallon (now played by Emma Samms) became fiesty once more, and Sable (from Dynasty II: The Colbys) was introduced. Sable had some great catfights with Alexis; IMO, they even rivaled the Alexis vs. Krystle catfights. The series finale was very suspenseful and it's a shame that the cliffhangers were never resolved, even in the Reunion mini-series.

I'd have to say Alexis was at her bitchiest in season 2, which was her premiere season. This was the only season where she was truly a villain. In the other seasons, she mainly threatened with words and the worst she really did was ruin someone's financial status. In season 2, she made Blake and Krystle's lives a living Hell and even caused Krystle to lose her baby.

I haven't watched that much of Dallas, but it's pretty good. Knots Landing and Ryan's Hope are also very good shows on SOAPnet.

They never should have replaced Pamela Sue Martin with Emma Samms.

The first 7 years of Dallas is excellent. The next 2 are okay and the final 4 gets worst as each season goes by and more and more of the original cast leaves. Overall though it was a great show.

I definitely agree. PSM just left a mark on the character that was impossible to erase, IMO. Also, they made the Fallon much needier and dependent once Emma Samms came on, which I didn't like. Back when PSM was playing Fallon, she had always been strong and independent. I was glad when they made Fallon more feisty again during the final season of the show.

Yes, Soapnet has some very good shows, ecspecially the primetime soaps. KL and DYNST are my favorites. But also be sure to check out the exceptional Another World, one of the best soaps to ever air.
