Velma Hill French
1913 - 2004 Velma Hill French, 91, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Tyler. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bates-Cooper Chapel in Mount Pleasant. Bro. Ronnie Stewart will officiate. Burial: Masonic Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Pallbearers: Billy Walker, Bobby Walker, John Walker, Timmy Hill and Chris Kettle. Velma Hill French was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Titus County. She was a homemaker and a member of Monticello Missionary Baptist Church, Lake Worth Lodge 1109, Eastern Star, Pinewoods Iris Association of Pittsburg, and Cypress Basin Genealogy Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Mary Ann Smith Hill; husband, James B. French; and brothers, Ben Hill, Everet Hill and Forest Hill. Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Barbara French of Mount Pleasant; daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline and Glen Johnson of Mount Pleasant and Genny and Roy Coleman of Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters, Glenda Anderson of Fort Worth, Nancy Osgood of Orlando, Fla., Lisa Cauble of Dallas/Fort Worth; grandsons, Dr. Rick Johnson of Dallas, Randy French of Fort Worth, Cody Whelchel of Fort Worth, and Justice Coleman of Los Angeles; great-grandsons, Justin Shumate, Chasin Whelchel, Dawson French, Tucker Cauble and Ethan French, all of Fort Worth; great-granddaughters, Christal Montgomery, Haven Cauble, Chelsea Montgomery, Clancy Cauble, and Brienna French, all of Fort Worth; and Molly Osgood of Orlando, Fla.; great-great-granddaughter, Leighton Shumate of Fort Worth; sisters, Della Roland of Dallas, Hazel Contreras of San Antonio and Hawtence Walker of Mount Pleasant; and brothers, Truman Hill, O.C. Hill and Thomas Hill, all of Mount Pleasant. |

I find it so hard to believe she's gone. Her letters from Lisa's fan club have meant so much to me over the years. She was a kind of person I could confide in for so long. I will miss Velma so much.
