Default "Hard songs" through tough times

like I said on another thead, I lost my mom a few days ago.

Last night I decided to go through her collection and mine as well and see if I am emotionally fit to be able to listen to certain "favorite songs" of hers, and I found these songs (all of which she loved) extremely painful to hear, even tho I was able to get through some of the more upbeat songs she liked

Lady In Red-Chris Deburgh (it was her favorite song ever)
Against All Odds-Phil Collins
Evergreen-Barbra Streisand
You Must Love Me-Madonna
One Sweet Day-Mariah & Boyz II Men
Ruby (Don't Take Your Love To Town)-Kenny Rogers
most of the Falling Into You album-Celine, she used to play that album all the time

I know I'm not alone in loss in here, what were some of the songs that you found extremely painful to listen to when you lost a loved one? Songs that you just couldn't make it through right afterwards because it brought back too many memories and made you cry?

"all or nothing" -o-town
it was the favorite song of my friend who died in 2001, they played it at prom for her last yr.

"leader of the pack" -the shangri las
"little deuce coupe" "oh caroline no" "betsy" -beach boys
all from inside jokes with a different friend i lost in 2001, i cant listen to them without thinking about him.

"fire and rain" and "one sweet day" both get to me too

There are some songs by Chicago, that remind me of my Grandma (I don't know why, exactly), but anyway, when I hear those songs, I just want to cry.

I'm so sorry about your mom The only song that really bothers me is Tina Turner's "What's Love got to do with it?" one day I was babysitting a friend's baby brother and he was in the shower singing that song and it always stuck with me and in 2000 he was killed in a car accident at age 18 and everytime I hear it it upsets me.

"Smile" by Lonestar reminds me of my great-uncle. I was crying alot after he passed he (we were real close) and the first line to the chorus is : Smile, cause I wanna make you happy...
I figure, he wouldn't want me to cry, so I know this is probably sounded real stupid, but this song just reminds me of him.

Also, "The Best is Yet to Come" by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver reminds me of the tough time my parents will go through when I move out...

"Holes In The Floor Of Heaven" tears me up everytime. It reminds me of my 3 grandparents I've lost.

Not stupid at all. I love that song, and I always well up when I hear it, too.

I have always associated these songs with the thought of my mother passing away (she hasn't passed away, this is just the thought of imagining her being gone forever)

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
Jealous Guy - John Lennon

My friend and I always thought that the album Avalon by Roxy Music was one of the best and most underrated of all time.
So melodic and mood setting, romantic, sad, hopeful and ultimately a fantastic 35 minutes of music.

But after he died, I could never listen to to this one song without thinking about him.

While My Heart Is Still Beating
(Ferry/Mackay)

All of those people
Everywhere
Ever so needing
Where's it all leading
Tell me where
Nothing insincere

I'd better have pity
I'd better go easy
I never will lay down
While my heart is still beating

Where's it all leading
Walk on air
Am I still dreaming
Words to spare
Lost in their meaning

I'd better be strong now
I'd better stop dreaming
My heart has flown away now
Will it never stop bleeding?

Not sure if this counts, but...

Last summer, we took our cat Lady to the vet because she was very ill and couldn't even function. We ended up having to put her to sleep. I stayed in the room with her and petted her as they injected her with the stuff that killed her. It was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through in my life. When I walked out of the room, they were playing that song Lean On Me by Bill Withers over the radio in the waiting room. That song always reminds me of her. And then when I got home I remember hearing Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper and that makes me think of Lady too.
