Mine are:
10 Best: 10: Molly’s Holiday Plot: Molly’s divorced father visits her, and brings along a guest that isn’t very special to Molly. What Made It So Great: Molly Ringwald did very, very good in this episode. Her acting was extremly well done and acted the correct way. 9: The Christmas Show: Plot: While Blair, Tootie, and Natalie are doing things for the holidays, Mrs. Garrett and Jo celebrate by have a fruitcake sale. What Made It So Great: I liked it because the holiday theme was very well made and set, along with the scripts which Nancy McKeon read very well and acted out. 8: Fear Strikes Back: Plot: Natalie becomes the victim of a rape attempt at the costume party. What Made It So Great: This episode marks the best of Mindy Cohn’s character on the show. Both Mindy and her characer blended as she cried out her eyes in this constroversal one that networks refuse to air. 7: The Halloween Show: Plot: The girls are extremly scared when they find that Mrs. Garrett may be cannibalistic. What Made It So Great: It was the only Halloween special of the show, and they did it very well. #6: Flash Flood: Plot: The girls are out of their minds when a flood runs down the house. What Made It So Great: I thought that this was the episode where we really got to know the girls, and we made friends with them. #5: Runaway: Plot: Tootie runs away to New York to meet up with the girls, but ends up meeting a prostitute. What Made It So Great: This is the most constroversal episode of any show to date. I mean you take a 12 year old girl, meeting a prostitute, and wanting her to take pills to become one, and fall alsleep. I just loved the episode. Very well done. #4: Take My Finals Please: Plot: The girls stay up for a study party that turns into a wild girls frenzy. What Made It So Great: Most people think that this episode brings the girls together, and has them make friends with them, but I just have fun watching it. #3: Different Drummer: Plot: Blair’s friend is ********. What Made It So Great: One of the touching episodes of the series deals with a very sad plot and storyline that melts your heart. #2: Breaking Point: Plot: Blair runs against president with the coolest girl in school, but what happens the next night changes Blair’s and her life....if Blair’s competition still has one. What Made It So Great: Although many think that it’s a borefest, just sitting in a room for 15 minutes, I loved it. It was the saddest one though. #1: Love At First Byte: Plot: Natalie and Tootie sent up Blair and Jo on computer dates. What Made It So Great: This episode just makes me laugh over and over again. The eccentric dates off of a computer dating hotline are funny, and off-the wall. My Least Favorite 10: 10: The Four Musketeers: Plot: After years of working as cooks at Eastland, the girls finally have a chance to leave. What Made It So Bad: This episode has a terribly short and confusing script. The scenes aren’t very funny and the girls don’t look happy at all. 9: Sisters: Plot: Jo’s Dad and Blair’s Mom fall in love. What Made It So Bad: An episode with the only characters being the girl’s parents? That’s pretty nasty. Blair and Jo are in it, but look very tired and worn out. 8: A Royal Pain: Plot: A princess of a small country comes to Eastland, and ruins the girl’s friendship. What Made It So Bad: The most annoying episode ever. The stupid princess girl ruins the whole episode which could have been good, without her. 7: Like Mother Like Daughter: Plot: Blair’s mother is seen making out with a married man. What Made It So Bad: I know that the plots of Season 1 were bad, but this was the pits. 6: The Beginning Of The End Parts 1 and 2: Plot: Blair buys out Eastland. What Made It So Bad: The last episodes of every series are heartbreaking. After a while, your heart can’t stand this episode. Very bad script. 5: Golden Oldies: Plot: The girls imagine themselves 50 years later. What Made It So Bad: Another bad one of the last season which is the most boring of the series. Blair has turned into a bimbo, and she’s 70 years old in this episode. 4: The Americanization Of Miko: Plot: Jo is chosen to show a new Japanese student, Miko the american way of life. What Made It So Bad: Too much of Jo, not enough Blair, Natalie, Tootie, Mrs. G, or good scripts. 3: Jo’s Cousin: Plot: Jo visits her Cousin for the weekend for is starving for some stuff that Jo is nervous to discuss about. What Made It So Bad: Ok, first of all Jo is the only Facts Of Life character in this one. Second of all, we have this 12 year old girl that wants to have sex with a repair man who is 28. This is sick. 2: Christmas In The Bighouse: Plot: The girls do a show at a jailhouse. What Made It So Bad: This episode shows you that the girls are terrible singers and dancers, with the exception of Mindy Cohn who tries, but doesn’t accomplish much. The episode is confused itself, a bad remake of “The Christmas Show”. 1: Brian and Sylvia: Plot: Natalie and Tootie visit Tootie’s aunt and uncle for the weekend. What Made It So Bad: The best plot of the series, the worst episode of the series. This episode was so terrible that everything in it was bad, and even the actress didn’t like working in it. ------------------ Andrew Carden |

Tootie almost becoming a prostitute is a CLASSIC!!!!And sadly,a lot of people I know dont remember this episode. They think I sickly made it up!!!!Right up there with Arnold and Dudley almost getting molested by the Bicycle man!!!!Natalie almost getting raped!!!!!Kimberly Drummond almost getting raped after hitch-hiking!!!!!These cautionary tales that play out like afterschool specials are my absolute FAVES!!!!!
ALSO....no one's gonna agree with me.....I love the El DeBarge episode where the girls win a singing contest as Sexy Lingerie!!!! |

You know, that really does get on my nerves that N@N would refuse to air episodes that they consider "controversial." I suppose that they forget that the company that put out FOL was Embassy Television, whose head was Norman Lear, the king of "controversial t.v." in the '70's. In fact, it does say on this site that the FOL used to be the set of Maude. It is NOT that FOL TRIES to be controversial, it's that the 80's weren't the Brady Bunch anymore, and that the girls were growing up.
My favorite episodes: 1. "Seven Little Indians"--I always loved the Twilight Zone, and the girls were great in this--especially with Blair's tragic "end." 2. The one with El DeBarge--"Sexy Lingerie"--what a great name for a band!! 3. "Less Than Perfect"--This episode broke my heart when I saw what had happened to Blair. 4. The episode where Blair and Jo went back to New York to meet their old friends. I never laughed so hard as when Blair showed Dina all about tuna--"See the little fishie?" I also thought that this was the one time that the two had begun to mature and realized the importance of the school.5. The taco stand episode. Loved Blair's outfit--and Natalie's wicked sense of humor! 6. The episode where they recall their summer vacations--and Blair slops pigs in her bodaceous dress--and falls in the mud!! And something about her accent gets me going in that one... She was just gorgeous in that episode. 7. The episode where Jo and Kevin kiss. It was interesting to see a guy move in and how they react. 8. As much as Lisa would kill me for saying this, I enjoyed "The First Time" episode. I thought the issue of sex was handled very well and quite realistically. The problem I have is that Lisa has never adequately explained WHY premarital sex is so terrible--for persons in their twenties. I can understand why she is concerned about younger viewers seeing it, but for mature viewers... 9. The episode after Natalie's father's death and how she copes with grief--as well as how Blair realizes she's not Big Girl On Campus. An important episode about dealling with change. 10. The Drive-In episode. I could relate to Blair being intimidated by a bully (my life story...) and how she clobbered her!! And there are so many more to mention... Here are my LEAST favorite episodes: 1. The episode where Natalie runs for mayor. I just didn't like what they did to Blair's hair in that one--even though they DID mention a porn movie in this one!! (Just kidding, it was actually a person involved in Watergate.)2. The one where Blair and Jo get makeovers. I thought it would really be cool if the girls DID play heavy metal for these stuff-shirt bigwig types, but it was only hinted at. No Spinal Tap on FOL... (And besides, Blair strikes me more as a guitar-person than drums.) 3. The episode where they introduced Pippa. Gosh, was that episode lame. The humor just lie there like a freshly-salted slug. 4. The one with Jo's cousin--which they thought about making a spinoff from. BTW, Jo wasn't the only cast member on it, Blair was on it to give make-up advice. Ultra Lame Fest. 5. Actually, just about ALL episodes where they tried to spin off to other series were lame. But I thought the final episode(s) where Blair bought Eastland was really bland. Those kids in that had no spark like in "Rough Housing". One girl acted totally brain dead, and the twerp who asked if she "over-boobed" was not all that charming. I wish FOL didn't on such a sour note. 6. "'62 Pickup"--This one seemed a little too cutsie for me, but what really got to me was Beverly Ann saying that the '60's were all about singers like Bobby Rydell and Fabian. WRONG-O!!!! The 60's were about the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, Cream, the Yardbirds, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane, etc.!! It would have been cool if the girls played hippie music (with Blair on guitar of course) and were to appear at Woodstock... 7. The one when Beverly Ann's ex returns. BO-RING... 8. "Big Apple Blues"--Natalie moves to New York. It just wasn't the same without the rest of the girls. 9. The one with the guys at the academy. Even though Blair and Jo were on it, it didn't focus on them. 10. The one with Natalie's boyfriend as a boxer. Totally different show all together. Why so many spinoffs? I could also say Brian and Sylvia, about Tootie's interracial aunt and uncle, but that would make it 11. You just couldn't have the magic without the girls together. And I'm sure there are other lame episodes, but, you know, you take the good, you take the bad... |

One of the BEST episodes had to be "Truck Stop..." I loved the imagination behind that one!! Plus I remember watching the Emmies (or some awards show) after it first aired and it was nominated for best television screenplay!!!!

This ep was refreshing IMO. I watch it every time I just need to relax and have a few good laughs. (to paraphrase) Natalie: Blair decked her. Jo: Blair, is this true? Blair: Yeah...I did do the decking. Lisa's face was so priceless I laugh just thinking about it ks |
