Anyone else think that this is one of the best episodes of the series? It's the one where Grandpa's elderly sister-in-law, Martha-Corinne, comes to visit and disrupts the household. Olivia very subtly tells her that her visit is over, but John-Boy finds out that Martha-Corinne is dying and brings her back.
This is one of those simple stories that the show did so well in its heyday, before the producers went overboard on the melodramatic shows. And Beulah Bondi was really good as Martha-Corinne. Usually, when a guest star came, the show would focus on that guest star's relationship with one or two of the regulars, often John-Boy. But in this case, the rest of the regular cast was relegated to supporting roles and Bondi took center stage. I also like how the show ended, too -- very touching, but not melodramatic at all. |

That is a great episode but when Richard Thomas left the show the show focused on the parents more and grandparents but the kids still were in supporting roles unless it was a romance blossoming!!
