Default What makes a good trader?

In dealing with so many traders over the last year, it is amazing how differently everyone handles trades. I'm curious as to what everyone thinks makes a good or an excellent trader.

To me, a "good trader" covers a broad spectrum:
  • Has a decent level of communication.
  • If shipping is delayed, this is communicated.
  • Sends out what he promised.
  • Packages well.
  • Has an accurate description of quality, within reason.
  • Makes good on his agreement if he erred.
An "excellent trader" goes a step further (this is frosting on the cake):
  • Ships promptly.
  • Completely honest.
  • Friendly & polite.
  • Promptly communicates upon shipping/receiving.
  • Never leaves you in limbo.
  • Labels boxes with titles (no surprises).
  • Leaves ten seconds blank at the beginning of tapes.
  • Doesn't attempt to set up uneven trades.
  • Includes a blank label for each tape.
What are your pet peeves and/or traits that are most important when trading? What am I forgetting?

Thanks

Jen

Default What makes a good trader?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I can't complain too much. 99 percent everyone I ve traded with has all been excellent traders .

My only peeve is how some people ship packages.

some disc traders. I ve recieved discs in wrapped in plain typing paper and shipped that way. No bubble wrap envelopes . Or any other type of mailer. The disc arrived scratched up. Yet playable , how is beyond me.

How some disc traders , not all. Tries to take advantage of tape traders. Hello, taping been around longer than dvds & vcds.

If it werent for tape traders. People wouldnt have half the collection they do on dvds.

recording in real time is just as much work as ripping a master disc.

Labeling is a plus. How hard is it to write a title on a disc or tape.

Takes what 60 seconds....

I dont mind recieving watchable quality as long there no tracking issues too. Who wants watch a tape that flips and rolls constantly.

Personally, I try to treat someone as I would want to be treated.

I wouldnt send somebody something . That I wouldnt watch myself.

Honesty & communication is the key to a great trade.

The friendship just one of the many perks of trading.
No one will with trade with a jerk. No matter how badly they want something.

Just a caution on discounting Disc traders. I for one have to make my dvds the same way I make my tapes minute by minute, hour by hour. I do not use the computer, only stand alone recorders!

Jason,

We all learn as we go along, and I'd much rather not have ten seconds of blank at the start of a tape than to have everything just so and deal with an arrogant trader. Honesty and integrity are more important to me than dotting every i and crossing every t.

By the way, though I really couldn't afford the time on my DVD recorder, I absolutely couldn't wait to put the F Troop to DVD. I just finished up converting the last tape, and I must say I'm absolutely thrilled with everything. The sound is very good, too, on all episodes, with only slight variations.

Thank you so much!

Jen

Never thought about the 10 second thing, and if someone I traded with did everything but that, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

As long as they are honest and deliver as promised, I consider them a good trader. In fact, I'd rather NOT deal with traders who are picky enough to request every last detail.

I don't care if tapes are not labeled. I have my own labeling system and don't want labels stuck to my tapes anyway.

What's important to me is quality of the show I am trading for. If I get that and a nice person to deal with, I am content.
