One question we will never know the answer to concerning the Jeffersons House

WHERE DID THE JEFFERSONS LIVE EXACTLY? I'm asking because

in the episode, Lionel moves in, Archie says the Jeffersons lives two door away

in the episode First and last supper, it was said the Jeffersons lived down the block


Years laters, it said the Jeffersons lived next door.


So where did they lived?-LOL That's three different locations on the same block.

I think that around the third season it was much better for plot development to have the Jeffersons living next door. For example the episode when Lionel and George are arguing late at night over Jenny's being half-white and Archie can hear it all from the bedroom.

The writers apparently hoped that we would not remember that originally the Jeffersons house was two doors away. Also, a house two doors away could be interpreted as "down the block".
We know the house eventually wound up next door because it was seen more frequently when Mike and Gloria moved in it. This is just one of many inconsistencies that pop up even in the best of series that actually is not all that major.

I don't think Two Doors away is considered down the block.

Maybe we wouldn't see it that way, but Archie probably wanted to distance himself from the Jeffersons as much as possible so he said it was "down the block". Come to think of it, maybe the house was always next door. It was only Archie who said it was two doors away or down the block and Archie was wrong all the time anyway. (He even forgot he had a brother in several episodes-LOL).

well, once on "Archie Bunkers place" they showed it as being on the leftof the Bunkers house, as you walked in their (Bunkers) front door.
In other words, the side that the camera's on. A path leads from the Bunkers back porch, accross the back of their house, to the fence seperating it from the Jeffersons.

I think the writers just started saying next door because the Jeffersons were becoming popular.

That episode was memorable in that it was the only time in thirteen years of AITF and ABP that we saw the Bunker's back yard.

no, it was the one where the sister or sister-in-law or something (I forget wich) of the black people who moved in next door, becomes his housekeeper.

If I remember correctly on "The Jeffersons Move In", I think they listed the house address as 708 Hauser. That would seem to me to be right next door from the start.

The previous answer is incorrect-the episode where we see the Bunker's back yard IS the episode where Archie plays baseball with Stephanie. I don't believe the back yard is in the episode where Mrs. Canby becomes the housekeeper but then again I haven't seen that ep in 20 years- I wish TV land would pick up the remaining ABP episodes that were not seen the last go round.

yes, the backyard is seen in the episode where Mrs. Canby becomes the house keeper, in the scene where Stephanie's out back talking to her.
