Was the Harlem section of mentioned a lot on Barney Miller? It seems Harlem was a Ghetto like no other and was mentioned on various sitcoms.

I dont believe so. They pretty much kept to the village. As a matter of fact, they hardly left the room, you know.

OK. I just thought it may have been mentioned like on most of the 70's sitcoms

I dont sit and watch my eps much, but if i catch anyone crossing 110th street I'll let you know. Geographically, they were more toward the islands tip, werent they? Not all that far from where WTC would have stood.

I got the impression that Harris grew up in Harlem; check out The Election episode

I read that in real life, Gregory Sierra (Chano) was from SPANISH Harlem.

Was Greenwich Village part of Manhattan? I seem to remember the series was set in Manhattan, on 6th Street.

What does that have to do with anything?? Sanford and Son was based in La, Maude was based in upstate NY, Good Times was based in Chicago, The Jefferson was based in Manhattan and Harlem was mentioned on all four shows

No need to be rude! While that may be so, Harlem was never really mentioned on the show because the station was in Greenwich Village. There was one ep where a kid Harris arrests for loan sharking mentions he lives there, but it's just said in passing. And in case you're wondering: Brooklyn is often mentioned because Fish lives there, Staten Island is mentioned (Wojo sees a UFO there and it's also been joked about as "the boonies"...lol). Queens was mentioned a few times, Roosevelt Island is mentioned (an actual tiny island located on one of the rivers-Hudson or East, I can't remember at the moment). Atlantic City is mentioned (Wojo takes his girl there), Philiadelphia(a reference is made to the police brutality issues that existed there in the 70s) is mentioned, Boston is mentioned (Wojo dated a girl who lived there) Cleveland is mentioned (Wojo flies a prisoner there), Jackson Hole, WY is mentioned (Harris is desperate to go on vacation there) and North Carolina is mentioned (Harris is kidnapped while undercover and ends up there), Puerto Rico is mentioned (Chano is from there), Connecticut is mentioned (Barney's wife wants to move there) How's that, Mr. King of TV Research?

Well that sounds strange that Philly was referred to and not a section of the city the show was based in-lol

Well there is no requirement that every part of the locale a show is based in needs to be mentioned. They also didn't mention the Bronx. Sorry you find it offensive.

It just seemed like a lot was going on in Harlem in the 70's also and you would think they would reference it.

You said they mentioned the police brutality issue in philadelphia on the show?
