Default Media Overhype

what makes me mad is how everybody (the media) goes on and on about a particular show that "everyone" loves. Last week it was "Sex and the City". It's not the end of the world people--I have never really watched the show but I HATE the rediculous amount of attention that shows like "Sex in the City," "Friends" and "Survivor," even shows that I enjoy like Seinfeld were way overhyped towards the end. The media seems to pick the next show/craze and tel people that they are crazy about the show. And the public of course buys into the hype and believes what the television tells them. The media thinks that they are GOD, but they are NOT.

What other shows do you think have been overhyped?

Besides what was already mentioned, I'll say the following:

All in the Family
Beverly Hills, 90210
Big Brother
Cheers
Ellen
Married ... with Children
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Osbournes
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Roseanne
The Simpsons
The Sopranos
South Park
Three's Company
WWE Smackdown!

the XFL (look what happened to THAT! )

Less specifically:
anything on HBO
anything on MTV
anything on post-Nashville TNN (and Spike TV, for that matter!)

Friends, definately!
The network should have given those greedy bastards the boot when they said they wouldn't come back unless they got $1 million apiece! Not worth it, IMO.
But they love their fans.

THAT'S RIGHT!

At least May 6 is just over two months away, a day I can say "GOOD RIDDANCE!!!"

And how much does the President earn per year?

The President makes about $250,000 per year I think(give or take a few thousand). Absolutely pathetic, that the "Friends" cast gets $1 million for ONE EPISODE(25 MINUTES) and the President gets $250,000 for 365 DAYS and his job is 1,000,000 times harder.

But basically.... the President will get everything free for the rest of his life.

And the "Friends" cast (as much as I dont like them, Im talking actors in general).... entertains America and the world.

And if it werent for Bush's bad English.... he's never entertained me.

how did Ellen have a lot of finale overhype? If I recall, didn't they kind of go out low-key?

well, if you've "never really watched" Sex And The City, then don't tell those of us who watched it every week for 6 years that we didn't love the show

Friends and Sex deserve their hype more than American Idol does

as someone who doesn't like Bush, I say good for the cast of Friends. I like Jennifer Aniston more than our president anyways

well, if you were born in 1989 if that's what the 89 in your name says, you were only 2 1/2-3 when Cosby went off in 1992, so you obviously do not remember how big that show was in the 1980's. I was born in 79, so I sometimes find shows like Mash or All In The Family overrated, and then I realize that it was because it was before my time. There was a long time in the mid-late 80's where Cosby was the biggest show in the world, think American Idol is now. But then Roseanne came out and took his place (and rightfully so, I'd say Roseanne has aged better than Cosby Show has)

do you not have HBO? there are some great shows on there. I'd certainly say their roster is better than any of the reality tv crap that pollutes our airwaves

In the words of Balki Bartokomous, "Well, of course not, don't be ridiculous!"

What I cannot understand is why their fare like Sx and the City and The Sopranos get hyped out the wazoo, while State of Grace on the ABC Family Channel (which I'm sure has more subscribers since it's not a premium channel) and Joan of Arcadia on CBS (a BROADCAST network, at that!) get next to no respect in comparison to the HBO ones I named.

There is a commercial running in my area for Time Warner Cable (or as I like to call it, GRIME Warner) that centers around HBO's series, calling them climactic and dramatic (and another word ending in -tic I can't remember). It annoys me ad nauseum, which explains why I don't have basic cable, either.
