Does anybody remember this 1987 movie about a shy teenager named Keith who was a senior and 17(Eric Stoltz who was really 27 at the time of making the film!! They need to stop getting actors/actresses playing "teenagers roles" when they are in their early, mid, and/or late twenties!! Get teen actors to play "teenager roles"!!
) who dislikes sports and is a shy misfit who is in love with the school snobby homecoming queen(pre-Caroline & The City Lea Thompson) named Amanda Jones who has a snobby boyfriend who is filfhy rich(A River Runs Through It Craig Schaeffer) and has a misfit but sweetwise tomboy with a heart of gold for a friend who plays drums and likes cars like he does named Watts(Mary Stuart Masterson & I love anything and everything that she is in!!) who really is the one who very privately and truly loves Keith not just as a friend but Keith can always see her as just "a friend!!"For those of you who haven't seen the film I won't give away that much since I bought the video from Amazon.com and got it just yesterday!! It is a cute and bittersweet teen story full of a little romance and a little angst!! |

I've seen that movie. I like Mary Stuart Masterson too. My favorite film of hers is Fried Green Tomatoes.
One of the reasons they get adults to play teenage roles is due to the child labor laws. By law, kids can only work a certain number of hours so it's easier just to have someone a few years older play the part. |

What a movie! I could relate to Watts very well, so I really liked her character. And I've always liked Lea Thompson, Eric Stoltz (lookin' so cute) and Craig Schaeffer.
Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart Masterson turned in one of the sexiest kissing scenes ever. |

Oh i love Somekind of Wonderful. I have the book too. Haven't seen the movie in ages. Got to get it on dvd.
As for people too old in reality to be playing teenagers, aslong as you don't obviously look to old then its ok. The girl who played Nadia in American Pie was 29! ....I think Alyson Hannigan has turned 30 but still playing younger roles. I say power to her!

If you liked SKW you've gotta see this flick SOL GOODE. It's like a modern day John Hughes movie. I caught it on cable last week and it was hilarious.

Somekind of Wonderful is a really good movie, and I much perfer it to the way overrated Pretty In Pink, which has a similar storyline. In fact I read that John Hughes wrote Somekind of Wonderful because after Pretty In Pink was released he wished that the Molly Ringwald character had actually ended up with her friend played by Jon Cryer and not the Andrew McCarthey character.
