Default Anyone know what Michael was talking about in the Tag scene of "Getting Up The Rent"?

In the Tag scene, Michael says "i would like to see an ALL BLACK SHOW for a change", and James says-"where are you going to find one? And then Michael says-"here's one, THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AGAINST THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS"

What did Michael mean by that statement?

That's exactly what they meant. All Black show = NBA game. I thought that was pretty obvious that was the joke.

It goes right along the same lines of the pilot episode of The Jeffersons. After mentioning he's too old to be a rock 'n' roll singer, Diane mentions to George, "and you're too short to be no basketball player" Stereotypes!!!! A rich African American = rock 'n' roll/sports or the third one she mentioned "a numbers runner"

Thus, an all black show for a change, going along the lines of stereotypes would be a basketball game!

Well thanks for clearing that up. I never knew what Michael meant by that statement.

I believe it is also a little bit of sarcasm on CBS' part since "Good Times" was an ALL BLACK SHOW. In Michael's world, there is no "Good Times".

No, but I think there were the Jeffersons. I think they graced a cover of an Ebony magazine Thelma was reading.

Jeffersons debuted in January 1975. So "Good Times" at this time may have been the only all black show. I believe that CBS was underhanded in what they had written. Notice the mention of the "Walton's" in the final episode of Thelma getting married? These little inuendos seem too obvious at that period of time.

The Jeffersons were the ONLY black family from All in the Family. There were no other black families connected to All in the Family
