Sorta off topic but not really. I was just wondering if any of you ladles and jellyspoons here have these life-swallowing soapboxes, er, things.

That's Theda Bara (I've dressed as her for Halloween countless times). This was from costume stills from Cleopatra (1917). Looking through those are a hoot because some of them look like they were made of leftover curtains and this one, she looks like they recycled a lampshade for headgear. Of course it's all pre-ratings pre-Hays office so there's a lot of sheers and pasties

I did hear that A Fool There Was is on DVD. I may acquire it. I've seen footage from it and there was a lot of film speed weirdness where everyone looks like they're running around. I think my favorite silent movie is It with Clara Bow (technology had somewhat advanced in the '20s as opposed to the '10s).

--P.S. I wasn't wearing sheers or pasties when I dressed as Theda for Halloween. I was usually underage and once I was of age that kind of costumery at the end of October in Illinois climate is impractical and I didn't want to scare people
