Default Once a certain Sitcom has all seasons released on DVD, do you see the point of that

show still being in syndication? For example, if all 8 seasons of Three's Company are avaiable on DVD will N@N or any network still air the show? Would anyone see the point of a sitcom still being in syndication once all seasons are on DVD?

Yes, for several reasons, if the show was popular enough to be released on all eight seasons that means there is still an great interest in the show, and another reason not everybody can afford to buy DVD's...

But we the viewers would have the FULL LENGTH version of all episodes like the networks so I figured it may not be any interest into watching N@N and TV LAND.

Yes, that is true for you and I, since I have purchased 3 seasons worth of Sanford and Son, I never watch the program on Tv Land; but still there is a lot of people that prefer to watch their favorite shows on syndication like Tv Land and N@N...

I just can't see a Station picking up a sitcom that has all seasons on DVD. If that happens, I think the sales for DVD players wil GO UP and viewership for that particular sitcom in syndication would go down.

I would never watch a show on TV.... if I owned every episode on DVD.

For example.... once "The Dick Van Dyke Show - Season 5" comes out June 29th.... I could care less if it were on TV or not.
All I really care about is what I get to see.

But I think some shows deserve to be in syndication for the ever, long after the DVDs are released.

Especially classics such as I Love Lucy, All in the Family, Cheers, Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Taxi.

Blah.... what am I saying.... all I care is about the DVDs.
And, hopefully, in a couple of years -- any form of Classic TV I watch will be through my DVD player.

Hmmm, that is true too, but it seems there is a lot of shows in syndication that also have Complete Seasons DVDs out as well...I know if I had the complete six seasons of Sanford and Son on DVD I would not waste my time watching the editied version of TV Land...

But some series may do very well on DVD.... but fail miserably in syndication.

Say there are 100,000 fans willing to buy a show on DVD.... thats good money for a company.
But (at least i dont think) not good numbers for syndication.

Good question; the only show that I have that is near completion is Sanford and Son by April, I will have four seasons worth and only two seasons to go....But there is a lot of shows that I wish were either going to be release on DVD or in syndication...Maude is one of them...

The Dick Van Dyke Show will be complete on June 29th.

Season 3 comes out Tuesday.
Season 4 comes out April 27th
and Season 5 comes out June 29th.

And Im getting them all.

And I might be getting S&S:Seasons 1-3 from my uncle for free (he's some head-honcho-accountant for the "Home Entertainment Department")
Hopefully he can get me The Jeffersons: Season 1 too.

I hate the second Lionel though.
I thought he was such a bad actor.

The first Lionel is 10x better.
