It depends on the wattage of your microwave. Mine has a "popcorn" preset, which is two minutes, fifteen seconds. Regular-sized bags come out perfectly every time.

I usually need it for like, 4-5 minutes. Do what I do.. set the timer for 6 minutes.. and when the pops start to become 3-5 seconds apart, stop it.

My microwave is from August 1992 (it says that on the bottom of the door when you open it), so in recent years, it's taking longer to do my popcorn...3 to 3:10 works for me.

I can't remember the last time I popped popcorn. I used to do 3:15 on our old microwave. Sometimes I think it depends on the popcorn too.

My microwave is a piece of ****. It takes forever to pop the popcorn. On the bag it tells you how many minutes you should put it in for but it never works for me. So I just push in a number and I end up undercooking it or overcooking it and it burns. I need a new microwave. I also need a new stove. But alas, no money. So I am stuck eating horrible popcorn.

It depends on the wattage of the microwave and the size of the bag. I do 2:40 on HIGH. Take it out right away when the microwave buzzes, shake it and let it sit. If you leave it in the Microwave it may still cook some and you could burn it if you overdo it.

BTW the BEST microwave popcorn I have ever had is POP SECRET HOMESTYLE. Don't get the Kettle Corn or Carmel Corn variety, those kinds are crap.

One time I put my bag in for four minutes and thought I was following the directions and all of a sudden, BOOM!!!!!!!!!! the bag exploded and the popcorn went inside all over the microwave. Then I noticed that not all microwaves are the same. Some want to microwave for two minutes, others four, etc. I had a hard time cleaning up the mess because the popcorn had butter!!
