Hey all,
I usually trade with people who need shows that I have, but what about those who have nothing to trade and just want to buy from you? What do people usually charge? I just wouldn't know what to ask for. Is it cost of tape, shipping, time? Just wondering what is usually customary. |

It really depends on how much time it takes to what is requested
Cost of tapes & return shipping. The highest 10.00 a tape. Like you I mainly trade. Try not to sell unless I need to .

Hi,
$10 per 2 hour tape is a fair price. I have paid $15 for 1 tape but I had to have it! I've been "offered" tapes for $25- $40 each. We all know who the $40 tapes are from

I think 5 or 10 dollars is very reasonable. I think 30 or 40 dollars is bordering on being a ripoff!

I think ten dollars for a 6 hour tape sounds reasonable. But ten dollars for two hours is to much.

Total rip-off! Someone offered me for a few episodes of a show I wanted. They asked for $35.00 each tape!! Needles to say I politely delcined I ended up going with another trader, for $7 a pop SP quality, 9.5/10 quality, and got the entire complete series to boot!

I usually go for trades first, but if they have nothing to trade I usually go 10-15 for VHS(up to 6hr) or DVD(2HR), including shipping. Of course If people want more I offer discounts.
When buying I look for the same prices. And try to haggle the best deals. Oftentimes I can get the people selling on EBAY for 45 to make me a copy for 10-15. |

It also depends on how rare something is. If it is something that anybody can tape any day of the weak then $5-$10 a tape. If it is something very rare than upwards of $50 can be reasonable for one tape.

Since I entered the world of tape trading, I tried to buy tapes only once. Now, I hold to a strict policy of not selling, but initially I sold to a couple of people for around $5 per slp tape.
The kind of stuff we prefer isn't always easy to find (wholesome family TV), but I've found that with patience, I can usually find someone who will trade for the shows I'm looking for or shows that I didn't know we'd like as a family.

For me, it depends on the rarity of for what I'm willing to pay (and also what I would sell for). So it can be anything (I've paid $50 + before if it was rare enough and if I trusted the offerer).
I always try to work things out with people for price if there's nothing to trade according to what they want and how much they want. For me, the circumstances of making a copy also matter. Some of my rare stuff is on Beta tape. I have an old Beta machine that can shift tracking mid play. So, if I make a copy of something like that I have to babysit the machines more. Same deal with stuff that a person wants being on a whole bunch of different tapes. But basically it boils down to. How much do you want it, how rare is it and is the seller aware of both? In any case I usually like getting something I'm looking for instead of money. So glad agent 13 had those Six Million Dollar Mans |
