of the characters on the show? Good times, during the first 3 seasons there were shots of the city of chicago and that's it. None of the charcaters were seen. Did any other sitcom do the same thing?

Welcome Back, Kotter technically didn't. Each episode would begin with him telling a joke to someone and after the joke, the screen would say "Gabriel Kaplan in..." and then the shots of Brooklyn would proceed.

Most episodes of Chico and the Man had opening credits without the cast members.

I forgot about that, BUT it is still a cool opening with no characters for the vast majority of the opening song which makes it pretty unique.

"The Honeymooners" "After MASH" (I'm not suprised that noone thought of that one, because it was so bad!), "The George Burns & Gracie Allen show", "Amos and Andy"-I'm not sure about this cause I've never seen it, but from what I've seen of the opening, I'm pretty sure

"The Jack Benny show"-that was only a sitcom sometimes, though

How could we all forget I Love Lucy?

Granted, the current TV Land versions restored the "original" openings, but even then, they're only animated stick figure caricatures of Lucy and Desi.

No offense, but I think it's a ripoff of Cheers' opening sequence, and I'm glad they changed it as of the second season to reflect their own style.

I thought the other styles were better too, but it is no big deal. I had no idea the Growing Pains introduction would spark such controversy. And you must admit, the other seasons were unique--showing age progression photos of all the stars. I can't think of any other shows that did that...
