The copies Nick at Nite used were the old CBS Daytime copies--not the copies used for broadcast syndication.

When Columbia House issued a 5 volume VHS set in the '90s, these copies were uncut and had the original openings, along with the then current Paramount logo.

I truly believe CBS will be using pristine copies as well as the original openings.

"The Lucy Show" has not been on national television since it ended its run on Nick at Nite back in 1996. And if "I Love Lucy" was such a big draw like TV Land states, then why did Nick at Nite acquire "The Lucy Show" first before "I Love Lucy?" These networks feel that "I Love Lucy" is the only thing people only care about and they push aside her later series. To me, that's a slap in the face to Lucy and her legacy.

I truly hope that CBS/Paramount releases all six seasons of "The Lucy Show" with the same treatment that "I Love Lucy" received. There's more to Lucy than just "I Love Lucy!"

Not to defend Nick at Nite, but they acquired TLS first, because TBS had the rights to I Love Lucy (and had them for a loooooong time). When TBS' rights expired, Nick swooped in and bought the show.

I think some great bonus material, besides the cast commercials, would be the "Opening Night" shows that CBS aired at the start of the seasons to promote what was new and what was coming back for the fall TV season. Also, I'm pretty sure all three of the kids are still alive so commentary would be fun to have!

since Lucie and Desi Jr. also made guest appearances (esp in the first season), they could add commentary as well!

I wish they would bump up the release for Christmastime since Season 1 has the Christmas episode as well as the New Year's Eve Party episode. Both are fun!

Nah, what they're banking on is that the set gets released in a time when sets won't sell as many (such as the holiday season) so the set sells, but the numbers seem to be a lot smaller than what the company hoped. Therefore a Season 2 will be delayed or just not released resulting in:

1) CBS saying "See, we knew no one was interested in anything besides I Love Lucy."
2) Fans asking where the second set is and the replied coming back "We can't justify spending that much when the first set only sold "XXX" copies."
3) Fans continue to ask for more official releases, and the reply comes back "You got your first season, what more do you want?"

Look at what happened with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show.

The most confusing part of CBS not deciding to release The Lucy Show sooner is that they are releasing Gomer Pyle at a steady pace. I'm not slamming that release but is that series selling that well?!?!

Considering how the public domain releases continue to sell and keep getting repackaged by other companies, CBS is the one losing out. Two years ago, when Genius Products issued out a Lucy Show DVD for $1--that release made the national bestseller charts.

I think Gomer may be more an TAGS tie-in release, but then one can argue where is Mayberry RFD? Esp season 1, which has the rarely seen wedding of Andy and Helen-you would think that would be a natural for a release!

techinically not true, TBS had the lucy show for many years in the early 80's, one of the timeslots was weekdays at 8:30AM eastern. I still have my recorded tapes. it was then dropped for bewitched which ran for many years as well.

I'm not talking about the Lucy Show, I was referring to I Love Lucy being on TBS. I taped TBS last day of airing I Love Lucy (Yule Love Lucy) before Nick start airing I Love Lucy.

TBS had long since dropped TLS by the time N@N began rerunning it. The last time TBS aired TLS was like at 4am on some mornings (I had taped those and they had the original openings) in the late 80s.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. The Columbia House releases had the proper openings for seasons 1 thru 3. The only mistake they made was there were 2 openings for season 3: one with a credit for Vivian and one without, depending on whether she was appearing that week. The season 3 Columbia House episodes used the opening without her credit, even though she was in the episode. Also on season 2 opening they didn't have the music synched up correctly with the video, but this is easily fixed.

I just hope they release the 5th season so we can see the original Lucy In The Box opening that was suppose to be terrible. I've been wanting to see that one forever but never have -- yet!

Just my opinion but if the 5th season is ever released I highly doubt it will be with the rare opening but it would be a great extra but if cbs/paramount is releasing will never see extras either.
