Correct! I have that same book and nowhere does it mention anything about ABP being a spinoff.

Solomon said he doesn't go by that book. Am I correct Solomon?

I'm not concerned about whether or not he goes by that book, Just making a point is all.

If Archie Bunker's Place is a spinoff then so are Mayberry RFD and Three's A Crowd and they weren't, It isn't and Norman Lear's word is good enough for me.

And he doesn't go by what Norman Lear says either. Thursday afternoon I'm going to listen to Norman interview that Janice provided and I'm going to see if ABP is talked about.

Well, if you know the debates we have here abt this very topic, you will know that Solomon has stated which sources he goes by and which ones he doesn't. I have not given my opinion one way or the other on this debate, but I am merely pointing out that I believe that book is on Solomon's list of sources he doesn't go by or believe.

That book states Good Times is a spin-off and Solomon says GT's is NOT a spin-off. I don't think it is either, but only because of one source, the man who wrote GTs script.

No problem. I was just wanting to make it clear. Solomon stated he doesn't go by that book because he doesn't believe it. So, it wouldn't make sense for him to go by it now, simply because it suits him on one point.

It may be considered a Spin-Off, that's why it's not syndicated with All in the Family, but in my mind it's definately a Continuation.

Here's how I see it. After eight seasons, Mike and Gloria left "All in the Family." The following season, they brought in Stephanie. The next season, the title was changed to "Archie Bunker's Place" but it still had Edith and Stephanie and the house setting and the bar setting, which was called Archie Bunker's Place in the previous season, I believe. So it was just a title change. They paid more attention to the bar, obviously, but it was still the same show. I mean it definately changed from the original format, so they changed the title, but I don't see it as a whole seperate series. It's just "The Later Years" to All in the Family.

And I also consider Mayberry R.F.D. to be a Continuation of Andy Griffith. Because I believe that if the show was originally titled "The Mayberry Show" back in 1960, when Griffith left in 1968, it would have continued as "The Mayberry Show" and been syndicated with the other eight seasons. It's just because the title had Griffith's name in it that they had to change the name of the show and get a new leading actor.

Three's a Crowd could go either way. It was a continuation because it followed the star of Three's Company, Jack Tripper after the girls moved on and he moved in with his girlfriend.

Oh and that Complete Directory book doesn't list it as a spin-off because in the section about "All in the Family" it combines both shows as one. It says the show started in 1971 and ended in 1983, listing all the cast changes and mentioning the name change, but considering it to be the same show. And I agree with it.

A TV Guide book I have lists it as two different shows, but describes it this way:

Under "All in the Family" it says, "The series premiered on CBS on Jan. 12, 1971, changed it's title to 'Archie Bunker's Place' in 1979 and ran on the network until 1983.

Under "Archie Bunker's Place" it says, "'All in the Family' evolved into this series in 1979, with Archie now a widower and the proprietor of his own neighborhood bar."

Does anyone know why Solomon doesn't go by that book? I used to supply radio stations around here with trivia and that was among my sources, I never had any reason to doubt it.

Because it doesn't agree with his beliefs he believe in anything that will back up his story at that point in time. Like once he said that wikipedia wasn't reliable, and then all of a sudden when something on that site backs him up, he believes in it again.
