CD nodded. “I want Bailey,” she simply stated.

Kate looked confused. “You want Bailey......as a witness to your case? To get a good home? To go back with her parents?”

CD shook her head. “No, I want Bailey,” she repeated. “For keeps.”

Kate looked at CD, wide-eyed. “Um, that’s a little extreme given the fact that you’ve known this little girl for less than 24 hours!”

CD shrugged. “I don’t care how long I’ve known her. Fact of the matter is that I love her, and I never thought I could love someone so much after everything that has happened in my life, but then I fell in love with Nate,” she paused. “And now I fell in love with a girl who I want as my daughter.”

Kate grinned. “CD, you’re going to have to go through some major
channels and red tape to get her, do you realize that?”

CD nodded. “I’ll do anything to keep her.”

Kate shrugged. “Then I can’t do anything to stop you,” she paused. “The only thing I can do is call every contact I know and put in a good word for you.”

CD smiled. “Thanks, Cap,” she replied. “and I talked to the woman in charge of social services, and she told me I could keep Bailey tonight, since I’m a cop of the city, and she’s my key witness. Even if I can’t keep her forever, I’ll at least have her for tonight.”

Kate nodded. “That’s sounds great, CD,” she stopped. “What does Nate have to say about all of this?”

CD shrugged. “I don’t know yet, Kate, I, uh, haven’t asked him.”

“CD!” Kate exclaimed. “He’s a major factor in your life now; you have to include him in on these things.” she paused and muttered to herself. “BOTH of you need to start talking to each other.”

CD grinned. “I know, I was going to ask him today,” she admitted and saw the two of them coming back in with their candy and sitting at Nate’s desk. “Um, Cap, could you watch Bailey while Nate and I go present our case to the DA?”

Kate smiled. “I KNEW there was another reason you came in here!” she teased her. “And yes, of course she can stay with me, but what about her parents?”

CD sighed. “I notified them last night, and they agreed to sign her away from them; they blamed insufficient funds for the lack of supporting her,” CD mumbled.

Kate nodded. “Yeah, there’s people like that everywhere, CD.”

“Yeah, sure is,” she replied and stood to leave the office. “Thanks, Cap, I’ll go tell Bailey you’re expecting her.”

Nate was teaching Bailey how to make a paper airplane, and Jinny was talking to the two of them.

Bailey was the first to notice CD. “Hi, CD!” she exclaimed. “Guess whatyour friend Jinny just said!”

CD grinned and looked quizzically at Jin. “What did my friend Jinny
say?”

“That I look like I should be your daughter” Bailey exclaimed.

Jinny blushed. “Uh, actually, I said that she looked like she had Nate’s eyes and your hair, so I was just, uh, teasing her....” Jinny mumbled and left Nate’s desk.

CD shook her head, and Bailey grinned. “Now what are we doing, CD?” she asked her quizzically.

CD grinned and picked her up. “Actually, you’re going to have to stay here while Nate and I go work on your case.”

Bailey bit her lip. “But why? I can stay out in the car and wait for you; I don’t want you to leave me again!” she began to cry.

“Honey, don’t cry,” CD soothingly responded. “You’re staying here at the Division with, Kate. You remember Kate, right?”

Bailey nodded.

“Okay, you’ll stay with her, Nate and I will hurry, and then we’ll come back here.”

“And you’ll take me home with you?” she asked hopefully.

CD shook her head. “No, Nate and I have to come back here and work, but you can sit with us alright?”

“Alright,” Bailey agreed disheartedly and let CD take her into Kate’s office.

Nate brought up the subject of Bailey first once they got to the car. “CD, she’s getting too attached to you,” he commented.

CD nodded. “I know, and there’s something I’d like to ask you.”

“CD, you can’t be serious!” he exclaimed, knowing exactly what she was going to say. “You can’t want to keep her!”

“Yes, I can,” CD whispered and looked at him. “Nate, I want her. I want to have her as my own child.”

Nate sighed. “CD, this is a big responsibility to take on so quickly, and in your condition, I don’t know.....”

“My ‘condition’ had improved tremendously in the past 24 hours. I see how brave that little girl is, and that makes me not so afraid anymore,” she paused. “You can support me or ridicule me, but either way, I’m doing this.”

Nate nodded. “Where does this leave us?” he asked her.

“Where do you want it to leave us?” she responded. “I mean, if you support me, then you can stay in my life socially. If you think I’m making a big mistake and don’t want anything to do with her, then I’m sorry, but we’ll have to end our relationship.”

“CD, of course I support you!” he exclaimed. “I don’t want our
relationship to be over, and I’d sure as hell love a family with you!” he paused. “I just didn’t know if you were really ready, or if you were just trying to save this girl.”

CD sighed. “It’s a little of both, I suppose,” she grinned and kissed Nate on the cheek when he pulled up to the DA’s office. “But this is right, Nate. This is where my life is supposed to go now.”

He nodded and kissed her strongly on the lips. “Then I’m right there with ya, babe.”

She smiled. “Good,” she stated and they got out of the car. “Hey,
Nate?”

“Huh?”

“So are you still coming over tonight? I will have another roomie, keep in mind.”

“Already?!” he exclaimed. “How’d you get her so quickly?”

“It’s not permanent; social services said I could have her in my custody until the trial’s over. Meanwhile, I’m filling out paperwork, and Kate’s calling in every favor and contact she has to get her for me.”

Nate smiled. “That’s great, CD, but can I ask you a question?”

CD nodded. “What is it?”

Nate sighed. “I don’t want her to just grow up with just a mommy,” he said. “I want her to have a daddy, too,” he paused. “I want her almost as badly as you do, and I talked to Kate this morning to see how I could keep her in my life. I was, uh, going to talk to you, but I was afraid you didn’t want to have a child, so I was going to do it by myse......”

“Nate!” CD exclaimed and hugged him. “Oh my gosh, I didn’t know you felt that way about kids! I figured YOU wouldn’t want her.”

“Of course I want her!” Nate promised. “I think she’s a blessing sent from God for both of us! She’s here to make you better and keep me in tact.”

CD grinned before they entered the office and kissed him again. “I love you so much, Nate.”

He simply nodded and kissed her right back.

After their case was looked over and the DA approved, Nate and CD rushed back to work to be with Bailey. She helped them with their reports by taking scrap paper and creating her own. CD commended her good work, and after their day was over, she turned to Bailey and asked, “So, are you ready to go home?”

Bailey shook her head. “I don’t want to go back there, CD. I want you to stay with me.”

CD grinned. “I’m not going to stay with you, Bailey,” she replied. “YOU are going to stay with ME.”

Bailey’s eyes brightened to their most choclatey brown. “What?!”

CD nodded. “You can stay with me tonight,” she paused. “That is, if you want to.”

Bailey attacked CD’s leg before CD picked her up. “Yes, YES, I want to stay with you!” she exclaimed and looked over at Nate and whispered into CD’s ear, “We can’t leave Nate by himself, CD! He would be sad!”

CD grinned and looked at Nate. “Hey, Nate, this girl here wants to
know if you’d be interested in staying with us tonight!”

Nate went to Bailey and kissed her cheek. “I’d love to stay with the two prettiest girls in San Fransico!”

CD and Bailey laughed, and the three of them left the Division to go shopping for Bailey.

They went to the mall and picked up several outfits, pajamas, some toys, and toiletries that a 4 1/2 year old would need.

Back at CD’s after pizza and a movie, CD made Bailey change into her pajamas and crawl into the guest bed. CD sat on the side of the bed and played with her hair for a little bit. Finally, she stood up and tucked the covers around her tightly. “There ya go, sweetie.”

“Thank you for letting me stay with you, CD,” Bailey praised her.

CD nodded and kissed her forehead. “I hope that they let you stay for more than just tonight, honey,” she replied, already told Bailey of the situation.

Bailey grinned. “Me, too, CD. I hope I can stay forever.”

CD smiled and kissed her again. “Honey, are you sure it’s alright with you if Nate spends the night here, too?”

“Yes, silly!” Bailey exclaimed. “I wuv Nate, too, and he can protect us if he’s here.”

CD grinned and shut off the light. “Okay, sweetie, he’ll stay then. Good night.”

“Night, CD.”

CD walked back into the living room and snuggled up to Nate on the couch.

“She alright?” he asked her, concerned.

CD smiled and nodded. “I’m pretty sure she’s the happiest she’s ever been,” she remarked.

Nate smiled and kissed her. “I’m sure she is, too, with the mommy she has now.”

CD blushed and sat in his lap, kissing him and laid him down on his back. She stroked over his hair and flicked her tongue into his mouth.

Nate immediately responded, almost forgetting what this was like from CD’s recent vow to stay away from him.

She pulled back quickly though. “I’m so sorry, we can’t do this, I don’t know what the hell I was thinking,” she muttered and left his lap to sit beside him. “We’ve got a kid in the house, and she doesn’t need to think that her new family is as whorish as her last one.”

Nate nodded. “I understand, sweetie. You want me to leave?” he
asked, trying to restrain his sadness.

She shook her head. “No, of course not,” she told him but paused. “But, I, uh, don’t think we should sleep together tonight.”

He nodded. “I know, and I agree, we shouldn’t be having sex while....”

CD shook her head. “No, I mean, I don’t think you should sleep in my bed tonight,” she explained to him. “Nate, I’m really sorry, but I don’t want...”

“CD, it’s alright,” he told her. “Baby, I can sleep on the couch, it’s no big deal.”

CD frowned. “It IS a big deal to me. After that night you took me to in that hotel, and then you let me be with you after I was taken hostage, and this is how I repay you?” She shook her head. “No, baby, I’ll sleep out here, and you take my bed.”

“Hell no, CD!” he replied and stood up. “I’m sleeping on your couch tonight, and there’s nothing you can do to make me change my mind,” he replied and picked her up.

“What are you doing?” she asked through a fit of giggles.

He smiled. “I’m taking you to bed,” he announced and conveyed her to her bedroom. He threw her teasingly in bed and then kissed her lips. “Goodnight, baby,” he murmured. “I’ll be thinkin about you out there.”

She pouted. “I’ll be lonely in here all by myself. I haven’t slept by
myself in ages.”

He grinned. “Well, come out and visit me if you get too bored,” he
replied and kissed her once more. “I love you, CD, and I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Night, baby,” she smiled and gave him a quick hug before he went to his place on her couch.

Nate was fast asleep when a little hand rubbed his shoulder awake.

“Huh, what is it?” Nate said as he sat up.

“Nate, it’s me,” Bailey replied. “Bailey Nichols.”

Nate grinned. “What is it, Bailey Nichols?” he teased her and sat her in his lap. “Everything okay?”

Bailey shook her head no. “I want to sleep in CD’s room,” she confided in him. “I’m scared to sleep alone.”

He completely understood. “How bout we go check on CD?” he asked her.

“Can we?” Bailey asked hopefully.

Nate grinned, picked her up and walked into CD’s room. He sat her down and whispered into her ear. “Wake her up gently,” he coaxed her.

Bailey ran to the bed and gently climbed up into it. She crawled around CD’s sleeping body until she was face-to-face with her. Bailey gently kissed the tip of CD’s nose and giggled.

CD stirred but kept sleeping.

Bailey kissed her nose again and said, “CD, wake up,” she whispered.

CD shot up. “Bailey?” she asked. “Honey, what’s wrong?”

Bailey giggled as CD turned on the light. “Nothing’s wrong, silly; I just missed you.”

CD grinned and put her arms around her as she sat her down in her lap. She looked at Nate. “And what are YOU doing in here?” she teased him.

Nate smiled. “I’m just relaying the assailant,” he responded.

CD nodded and turned back to Bailey. “So, you want to sleep in here with me tonight?”

Bailey nodded hungrily. “Yes, please,” she replied and snuggled up to CD. She whispered in CD’s ear, “Can Nate sleep in here with us? I think he’s afraid, too.”

CD smiled. “Ya sure?” she whispered back.

Bailey nodded and smiled happily.

“What are you ladies doing?” Nate teased them.

CD scooted to one side of the bed and put Bailey in the middle. “We want this bed full, and I guess you’re the only one who could fulfill our demands,” she teased him.

“I feel so loved,” he rolled his eyes and looked at CD. “Are you sure....”

“Come on, Nate!” Bailey exclaimed.

CD nodded, so Nate crawled into bed next to them. “Goodnight, my beautiful women,” he replied and kissed Bailey’s head before kissing CD briefly on the lips.

“Goodnight, Nate,” they replied, CD flipped off the light, and the three of them snuggled closely in the bed.

The next morning CD awoke to a foot in her face and arm groping her stomach. She sat up a little to see both of her houseguests fast asleep. She gave Nate back his arm, which caused him to stir a little, and then she laid Bailey’s foot in his face to be mean.

She smiled, got up, and left the room to get her camera. She found it and snapped a couple of pictures before leaving it to make breakfast.

CD was busy scrambling eggs when she heard the thump thump of feet coming her way. She turned around. “Morning, hotstuff,” she teased Nate, who kissed her cheek sleepily. She licked her hand and smoothed down his cowlick.

He grinned and wrapped an arm around her middle. The other one slid down her elbow to her wrist and closed itself around her hand that was busy stirring. “Good morning to you, too, sweetie,” he replied as he began to kiss her neck.

She giggled. “You sure are fiesty this morning, aren’t ya?” she teased him.

He laughed. “I miss you already,” he admitted.

“What’s there to miss?” she teased him. “We haven’t had sex in two weeks anyway, what was one more night?”

“I can’t go much longer before I explode,” he told her and continued sucking on her neck.

“Nate, that tickles,” she responded and turned around to read him the riot act. “Nate, what do you think you’re.....”

He captured her lips before she could finish, and she dropped the
spatula and threw both arms around him.

He picked her up and sat her on the cabinets. He fondled all around in her mouth with his tongue, and she responded and started unbuttoning
his shirt.

Bailey woke up with a start and noticed she was all by herself. That made her run into the kitchen, the closest room to CD’s room, to look
for her friends.

She saw them kissing heavily and groaning, and she giggled. “Ew!” she exclaimed. “What are you doing?!”

CD pulled away quickly and slapped Nate’s shoulder to make him quit as well. “Bailey, honey, good morning!” CD said.

“CD and Nate, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.....” Bailey started singing.

“Bailey Nichols!” Nate exclaimed. “You better not finish that!”

Bailey giggled. “Okay, Nate, I won’t,” she smiled great big and looked a the skillet. “Ew, CD, what IS that?!”

CD looked at the scorched eggs; the skillet had started smoking and the charred spatula had melted into her masterpiece. “Oh, ****!” CD shouted and grabbed the skillet off the burner as Nate turned it off.

“Is everything alright?” Bailey asked nervously.

CD nodded. “Yes, honey, everything’s fine, I just forgot our breakfast.”

“That’s okay, I don’t usually get breakfast anyway,” Bailey explained.

“Well, you get it today!” Nate exclaimed. “What can we make you,
sweetie?”

Bailey thought for a second. “I want......OATMEAL!” she told them.

Nate shuddered. “You can have ANYTHING you want, Bailey!”

She nodded. “I know, and I want oatmeal!”

CD laughed. “Okay, three oatmeal’s comin up!”

Nate frowned. “Yuck, I think I’ll just take the eggs!”
