Children born to parents that age have a high risk of getting down syndrome!!
Having babies is a risk at ANY age. A woman can die in childbirth or have a down's baby at 18 or at 45. A woman can also have a baby at 18 who has Cerebral Palsy. So yes the risks go up as women age, but I have known many happy healthy moms in their 40's. These pregnancies are watched over very carefully by their doctors. Also...the age of the FATHER has nothing whatever to do with it. Men produce fresh spermatazoa every day, and can father children into their 80's. Ever hear of Charlie Chaplain and Tony Randall??

Yes, I had older siblings as well and people thought it was strange that they were so much older than me. I used to hate being so young compared to them, but it doesn't matter anymore. Also, I became an aunt at the age of 7.

Lucille Ball had one of her kids when she was 41. I think it was Desi Jr. Not sure. And look at all these women stars adopting babies in their 50's. It takes ENERGY to run after babies!
Aaack that's too many babies!

My mom had me when she was 42, but its never really bothered me. Sure its odd be an aunt to 2 people that are a couple of years older than me, but I don't care. Its always been kind of a family joke. I don't have a problem with her age.

Yep, you're right about that. The risk does go up as you get older.

My mother was 34 when she had me. Yah, I always thought she was old when Id hear my classmates say their mother was 37 or whatever and mine was 44. Oh well, she also had my bro 15 years earlier @ 19.

Here's a funny story. One day when my daughter was about 9 years old she and a friend were discussing how old their mother's were. Well, my daughter said that I was around 50! I was actually about 28 at the time! So there's some proof that some kids just can't tell the difference!

But, I'll add that this same friend she was talking to always thought that I looked like Carly Simon, who was definitely not very old at the time! At that time I had very long straight hair(this was circa 1978) and I guess I did kind of resemble her!

As long as your mom took good care of you, why care about age? Some people grow up with their grandparents raising them. Should they be ashamed too?

EXCELLENT point! Besides that, older people have more wisdom and I think the kids BENEFIT from that. It's better than having a mom who had you at like...12 or 14! I think I'd be MUCH more ashamed of that for some reason.

Lucille Ball had her first child when she was 40yrs old and the second one came almost 2yrs later. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I just set myself a goal to have my kids before turning 30 and I did.

My mother has been 29 for like 10 years. When people ask her how old she is, she always says 29. If we say "no you're 41" she gets mad....
