I dont think he would stay around very long.

Maybe Im wrong.... but I think John Lithgow was a known actor back in '84.

And I dont think he would have wanted to stay beyond the original 6 or 7 episode deal.
And then the entire course of Cheers would be different.
(Maybe it'd be cancelled that season)
(and Frasier would've definately never happened)
(Cheers wouldnt be that well known)
(and I probably wouldnt know about it)
(so really.... hiring Kelsey Grammer instead of John Lithgow.... changed the course of history)

The Tortelli's was Cheers' first attempt at a spinoff. It featured Carla's ex husband Nick moving to a new city(I believe it was Las Vegas) with his new wife Loretta living with Loretta's sister. I forgot her name. It was pretty bad.
