We have Cogeco high speed cable internet. It's okay, but we're thinking of getting LincSat, which is a satellite internet service. I hear that satellite internet is the fastest service available. I think we need to do some more research, to see if it's worth the investment.

As you know, I'm an AOL employee, Janice. If you have broadband through your cable company, you can get AOL for $14.95 on the AOL For Broadband BYOA (Bring Your Own Access) price plan.

Does your AOL software connect through your broadband connection, or does it still dial up through the phone line?

I'm glad I got rid of AOL. It was horrible. I got sick of constantly getting kicked offline. It was also really slow, even with their broadband. And everytime I called for help, the people were always either rude or had no clue what they were doing.

I would say it connects through Broadband. I remember paying for the rental of their modem. That's what the installation guy told me.
My phone is never tied up. I don't have two phone lines. I used to before I got the high-speed Comcast thing. My computer is lightening fast. AOL Broadband is not yet available in my area. I always check when it comes up on my Welcome page by typing my area code in.
I pay AOL for the year. It's $20 monthly when paid annually, instead of $24 (I think it's $24).
My brother and a few others have told me that I'm crazy for having AOL, even that I can still access it without paying for it. That makes no sense.
I wish I could have AOL with their Broadband. I imagine it would be cheaper.
I'm sorry if this isn't making any sense, but it's the best way I can describe it.

To tell you the truth, it's usually cheaper to connect AOL through a competitor's broadband connection than it is to get the actual cable/DSL connection through AOL. Your best bet would be to change to the $14.95 AOL For Broadband BYOA price plan within the month before your prepaid year ($239.40/year) expires.

Thanks a bunch. I'm paid up through August, so do I have to wait until then, and when I call, do I ask for their billing department?
I hate calling AOL. I've gotten some people that were not too knowledgeable. Can I ask for you? lol.
I actually called them about my situation once, and the person didn't explain that BYOA that you're describing.
I really do love AOL though. Very user friendly for this computer dumbo. I love their message boards too....the entire AOL community is great.

You don't have to wait until August. If you want to call in and change to BYOA now, you would get a prorated refund. $96.00 if my awful math is correct.
