When Season 1 came out, I bought no less than five copies! Naive, I know, but I was really hoping that would help sales. Imagine my disappointment when I later found out the follow up collection was indefinitely postponed.

Still, I'm prepared to buy many copies of Season 2. Maybe if we all bought at least two copies and gave them to friends, etc., it would get the word of mouth going?

It's so sad that we have to surmount a grass-roots campaign for a show that is already a classic. With the proper promotion from the company releasing it, it could do very well. And yes, I too crack up at the other crap making it to DVD. "Saved by the Bell," anyone?

5 copies.... wow.
I can hardly afford 1 copy.

But this show definately deserves over chance at DVD releases.
Definately better advertising!!

TV Shows On DVD have posted the transcript to a recent online chat with Mr. Peter Staddon, Sr. Vice President of Marketing at Fox Home Entertainment, and who - in his own words - "oversees the development of all DVD products". Below is what he had to say about the future of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD.

Quote:
Mary Tyler Moore Show - Season 2 - "MTM2 is a possibility but no certain at this stage." This was the final response to the examples in my question, and clearly indicates that Fox doesn't consider this show a "dead" issue quite yet. The hold-up with more Moore was that the first season didn't sell enough to justify the money spent by Fox on it, so they have to find ways to spend less development money on future DVD releases. In another portion of the chat, Mr. Staddon commented that "the costs of remastering are coming down", and as the market grows there are other costs associated with DVD production & manufacturing that are coming down, too. If Fox can find a way to make the numbers work for Season 2, they will happily continue to turn these out. Until then, consider these releases "on hiatus".
Regards, James.

LOL, I was just at tvshowsondvd.com, and I was going to post the exact same thing. I totally forgot you beat me to it! I guess great minds really do think alike. Anyway, it looks like Fox has changed their mind, and TMTMS isn't quite dead yet. So that's good.

They sure do Kristen! Fans of The Mary Tyler Moore Show seem to be a brainy bunch.

To be honest, I think Fox would have eventually released Seasons 2-7 of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD.

I'm with everyone else...I hope Fox releases it, too! I mean, we can't watch it on TV b/c TV Land isn't showing it so it's only fair they release it on DVD! (Not that fairness plays any part in the production of the DVDs!) Still, the only Mary we can watch is our season 1 DVDs and that's only 24 episodes. But I have a feeling the DVDs, just like Mary Richards, "might just make it after all!"

That may not be true because you catch Mary on the classic tv series, The Dick Van Dyke Show as Laura Petrie on TV Land. So you not only have those 24 episodes, but you also have 158 additional episodes of our Mary to see!

I wish, somehow, that Image entertainment, the same company that puts out those wonderful sets of The Dick Van Dyke Show, could somehow take over the Mary Tyler Moore on DVD project. That way, we would get fantastic extras, just like The Dick Van Dyke Show gets.

When I heard news that there was talk of trying to bring out Season 2 back in November 2003, I was hopeful as can be, but we've yet to hear word about this since then. We're now in May. That's 6 months ago. Needless to say I'm a bit less optimistic...
