Yeah, Jan's hair looked awful that way! And her hair was so pretty when she was a little girl, and in later seasons! Around the time of those funny weird curls in the front , it looked like she maybe braided her hair when it was wet, and that is why it looked all thick and wavy like it did! My sister and I did that sometimes. So that wasn't bad, it was kind of cool, but those weird short curls in the front were horrible. And than the poor thing got those horrible glasses and I think braces too! They were really doing the awkward /second daughter/middle child syndrome to the hilt than with poor Jan! It was so cool, that she got so pretty by the later seasons!

I always liked Carol's hair. I thought her hair always looked cute! And the guys perms, well it was the 70's, guys were doing that back than. They were OK. Peter's was really dried out and wild looking , but he was so cute, I can forgive the bad hair!

The black wig Jan wore in that one episode was just awful. But she looked hot in Season 5.

I noticed that several of the older posts apparently refer to how Carol/Florence was wearing her hair in Season 1 -- but most of these people seemed to be totally unaware that she wore a wig that season.

And as far as not taking Mike/Robert seriously later on, trust me, there was a LOT of WORSE looking men's hair on TV in the '70s. Gene Shalit was a good example (Today).

Oh yeah! OMG! The 70's were notorious for men having bushy, moppy type hair !! Also very bad toupee's (Mr. Carlin , Bob Newhart show) and comb overs were seen a lot in that era on older/middle aged men! Than the early 80's we were seeing a lot of "helmet head" on men. Puffy hair that was very styled and hair sprayed and could probably withstand a tornado!

The Hawaiian eps are playing tonight. The first one where Mike's hair suddenly becomes curly mid episode, and the mystery of is it or is it not a perm begins for the next 42 years !!! LOL!!!

Barry Williams had a chapter in his book, "Growing Up Brady", about the hairstyles of the cast, and he specifically mentioned Robert Reed's hair. You may have noticed that Mike Brady still had the old hairstyle from the previous season in the opening scene of the Hawaii episodes (set back at the Brady house) but had curly hair for the rest of the series in Hawaii and afterward. Barry mentioned that Hawaii had such high humidity that Robert couldn't straighten his hair anymore there so he kept it curly for the rest of the show (and his life). I don't think he needed a perm for that hairdo though.

Mike's perm was pretty awful and I agree that Peter's pre-perm hair was a total mess.

If I'm not mistaken, Robert Reed's hair was naturally curly but after the Hawaii episodes, it wasn't worth the hassle and stress maintaining it anymore.

I always noticed that the boys at the beginning of the series, were really conservative and "clean-cut" looking with their hairstyles. I mean compare the way that Christopher Knight looks in Season 1 to what he looks like hair-wise in Season 5, and it's like, no pun intended, night and day:

Cindy's bizarre reddish hair in Season 2 didn't last long. It stood out as a ghastly mistake.
