Personally, a lot of times I think June needs to stop acting like a doormat and have people walk all over her. She never seems to stick up for herself or really yell about stuff. I think she's a little wimpy, but she's also very elegant! Sometimes a little TOO elegant like she has to dress up and wear a hat just to do downtown. She can be a little fixated about how she looks. But she is the "perfect" mother!

Since June was a character on a sit-com, a character written by men in the 1950s, its impossible to try to say she this that or the other. Barbra Billingsly was not playing herself, and ironically she was not a stay-at-home mom to her own 2 sons.

Very true! I posted a reply earlier about how I happened to like June's character...and not just because I'm a huge Barbara Billingsley fan...I just liked the character and the values she represented and all that stuff.

Did we soooo not read in Jerry Mather's book that she WAS infact just as close to June Cleaver as she could get?? Besides the fact that she was not a stay-at-home mother? Of course, she was different from June in other ways, but the boys (including Ken and Frank) always say that she is the spittin image (personality wise) of june cleaver. Now to me, that makes you just wnat to love her in general THROUGH June Cleaver, who doesn't wish she was their mother?
