I have nothing against police officers but the ones around here seem to all be involved in something less than wonderful.
example- our officer from DARE in elementry school, who told us day after day that drugs were bad, got arrested because she broke into a dentists office and stole a bunch of drugs....

I'll give credit, as I said before, to the cops who were on the scene who acted with unselfish valor. But that's as far as it goes. You seem to think that 9/11 is supposed to have changed our overall perception of the police. To me, that's exploiting the tagedy. We don't need to exploit it to remember it. |

I like them in general. However there was a female cop over here who was arrested twice for drunk driving. The last arrest she had her 10 month old daughter in the car. Thankfully she was fired. The cop who came when my mom car stalled in the turn lane was really nice, and he was very cute
. When I told that to my brother he said I should've asked to see "his nightstick"

I have, and always will have, the utmost respect for police officers and firefighters. There's a few bad apples, but that's true for every profession.
These people put their lives on the line for us. |

I think cops are great. Sure, there are cops who abuse the power. But, there are people everywhere who abuse their power no matter what they do. That comes from the person who they are-- not whether or not they are a "cop." The same applies with teachers-- the good, hardworking ones who care about what affect they leave on the world are to be commended for their hard work. Cops are out there every day risking their own lives to help keep us safe. Even before 9-11, cops were out there every day in order to keep us safe. Somehow, we as a nation never gave them any credit before that, though. I have a HUGE experience with cops as I have a long line of family members who are police officers and have had to work with other cops many times regarding children at my job. I'm definitely appreciative of everything they've done for me. And if there are any cops out there reading this, please let me say thank you for everything you do.
As far as doing nothing but pulling people over and getting quotas? Well, that's funny. I was the one in the house when my cousin got the call that a riot had been broken out in the prison my cousin worked for, one officer had been stabbed to death, and they wanted my cousin to come in and help out. He jumped right out of bed, got dressed, and went to work. All his family told him he was stupid for walking into that situation, but he ignored them. He was like, "I can walk down a street and get hit and killed by a bus. I'm in no more or less danger going into this scene." And he left. I think that kind of work takes a LOT of courage. Another time, two armed felons were roaming in the woods behind my house. I talked to the police officers, and as the last one left, I said, "Please be careful." The guy looked at me with this stunned expression of his face. It knocked me off guard because, it seemed like that was the first time anyone had ever worried about his safety (as far as someone he didn't know). America has this "protect me, forget you" mentality sometimes, and that can be so sad. The officer did answer me, "Thanks. You be careful too. Stay in the house unless you have to go somewhere. But, don't just hang around outside." I just can't get over how surprised he seemed to have someone worry about his safety. Cops are people, like everyone else. If you shoot or stab them, they bleed. They are people's wives, daughters, husbands, sons, brothers, sisters, etc. We owe them A LOT. |
