This sucks tremendously!!! Why are they wasting their time with Buffy and The Shield?!? Honestly, some people might be happy, but I'm mad as hell, especially Buffy. Buffy is still airing new episodes on UPN and FX airs it constantly! Release shows on DVD that can't be seen anywhere at all on TV! Us classic TV fans are geting screwed over and it's not fair. I can't even watch my favorite shows anymore.............

They aren't wasting time or money with Buffy. If they were they stop releasing Buffy on DVD. Why do you hate Buffy so much? It's a great show.

I'm not Chris, but I'll try to explain what he meant. If I'm wrong, he can always correct me. I've never watched Buffy, but I know it's a pretty popular show. (Am I the only one that has never caught an episode, or am I just a loner? lol)

Anyway, Buffy is shown in reruns on a few stations. Some old shows are just rotting somewhere because stations refuse to play them. If they would wade through the shows that aren't played as often and put them out on dvd (season by season) it would be easier for the fans to get. They wouldn't have to wait for some station to pick it up. You might have to wait who knows how many years for a station to pick up X show. With Buffy, you can either buy the dvds and enjoy them or if you don't have a dvd player- you can catch it on some of the stations.

Let me use Archie Bunker's Place for an example. I'm 18 years old and I've never seen the show before, until TVL picked up the first 27 eps. It's not likely I'll ever get to see the full run of the show because ABP is not as popular as All in the Family was. I'll just have to make do with what I can because it's not very likely another station will pick up the rights or they get released on dvd. If they were released on dvd, I could have the episodes right here and now. Once TVL loses rights, I guess it'll just be another show that rots somewhere.

OMG!! You never watched Buffy! I am shocked! I think you would like the show if you saw it. FX is on Buffy's 2nd best season right now. But they aren't going to air the episode where Willow skins a person then sets him on fire which is pretty sad because that episode rocked!

I've never seen Buffy. I seen the movie they made around 1990 (?) with Kristy Swanson playing Buffy. I've never seen the actual tv show though. Willow skins a person? That sounds like some of the stuff I'd write about. I may try and catch a few episodes.

I have to admit money is a bit of a problem. If you put something like Bewitched out on DVD. I'm not sure if they have even released Bewitched, so I'm just using this as an example. Bewitched prob. wouldn't sell so great. I'm not sure if Bewitched has a young lineup of fans or not, and I'm not sure many adults would buy the DVD either. Most adults probably buy stuff for their kids even if they see something they want. Others might see the DVD and say to themselves, 'I grew up on that show. I haven't seen it in years.' Buys DVD.

Sometimes I wished we had some kind of DVD company that focuses only on classic shows. They could even test out shows. Release a season of Bewitched. See how the sells go. If it does moderately well, go into a production with another season. Even if these companies look at one show and think nobody is gonna buy that. It might not sell, but you never know. It could be the top selling DVD of 2002, or something.

Argh, I better stop for now because I keep spelling 'sell' as 'seel'. Oh lord. lol

Yea, that's exactly what I meant. I hate to see shows released on DVD that are already playing on TV stations. I don't have anything against Buffy at all, I just get pissed when a network decides to stop playing a show I like. Everyone does. Like for example, I never really saw ALF before, and I heard that Hallmark was dropping it. So I decided to record the two last episodes today and I totally loved it. Now I can't do anything because it isn't going to be shown anywhere. It could be years for all I know that another station decides to pick it up or for it to return to Hallmark. So yea, basically I don't hate Buffy, I hate the DVD companies that decide to put shows on DVD that can already be seen.

I guess you haven't heard about the big push to get Bewitched out on DVD on its 40th anniversary and the movie tie-in to go along with it in 2004 (more and more proof keeps popping in to back up the rumor..... YAY!!!! )

Besides, MUCH, MUCH less well-known stuff has already been released on DVD. Add that to the fact that the Bewitched Columbia House video collection, even though there's only 4 episodes per video (and barely one fourth of the total BW episodes), is one of their biggest sellers. There's 20 tapes in that set vs. only 10 tapes in other series.

And for a while, Bewitched was one of the Hallmark Channel's top-ranked shows..... until they scheduled it into overkill. I love BW (duh ) but not 7 times a day with some of the best parts edited out for commercial time. BW has also been climbing higher and higher in one website's polls for "Which shows do you want on DVD?"

I know you used Bewitched only as an example, but since this is Sitcoms Online, there's bound to be fans from every show ever mentioned.

ALF! It only had 4 seasons, so it wouldn't be too hard for them to release ALF. Plus I bet DVD sales would be pretty good cause everyone loves him!

I'd definitely buy it It was on our list of "must watch" shows when I was little.

Are they doing all dvd tv shows season by season now? Star Trek and The Twilight Zone have so many dvds and I think ST has like 2 episodes per dvd and TZ has 4 episodes per dvd. I still have my Batman movie dvd, but I haven't moved into the tv show DVD's yet. Are they still seperating some shows or what? I know All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Jeffersons are season by season but are all the other tv show dvds season by season too? j/w

I Love Lucy is sold in 4 episode sets, not a season by season set, which sucks, because in the long run you are spending more money, but eh, and they're not even UNCUT. Unlike all other DVD releases of TV Shows. That ticked me off, LOL. But TV DVD's are worth it just to see the episodes uncut. I've heard the MTM set has tons of features in it (old promos, etc.) I'm surprised it didn't do well.

I agree with everyone here and I too think more classic programming should be released. I mean, we should be counting our blessings we are getting what we are getting. I think, eventually, if Columbia Tri-Star keeps this up, we may be getting more. 20th Century Fox, what shows do they distribute, classic, I mean. Don't they have the distribution rights to all of the MTM library (Rhoda, Phyllis, Bob Newhart???)
