I couldn't agree more. I always feel that all TV shows, even ones that are sitcoms, should always try to reflect real life as often as possible, and that definitely includes death. I mean, what should happen if it transpires that the actor or actress has died for real? Should the producers of Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues have just glossed over the absences of respective characters Ernie "Coach" Pantusso, Selma Hacker, and Sgt. Phil Esterhaus upon the respective deaths of actors Nicholas Colasanto, Selma Diamond, and Michael Conrad? Heck, with the attitude of not including death in a show at all, the producers of Sesame Street might as well have not properly addresed the absence of Mr. Hooper upon the death of actor Will Lee.

Good Times is one of those TV shows that I stopped watching before it made major casting changes in the later episodes. I have a faint recollection about hearing that James was killed off but hearing NOW that the episodes went on to have new characters and changed from its original set-up of having Florida and James as the overall main characters, makes me realize how I must have stopped watching the series rather early in its entire run.

Back when it was popular, I found the "Kid Dynomite" character rather annoying in that he overdid his silly personality and it was an ear-sore to hear him say his signature words so frequently.
The "James" character was likeable enough and John Amos played him well, yet Good Times was not one of my favorite shows.

I think the only episode that'a actually with James actually in it, I really don't like is 'A Loss Of Confidence'.
