Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV sets a Soledad O’Brien-hosted fifth episode with new Drake Bell interview
Quiet on Set: Breaking the Silence, premiering April 7 on Investigation Discovery, will feature interviews with Bell and other former child actors, as well as participants in Quiet on Set. “With Breaking the Silence, we’re digging deeper into the crucial conversations the docuseries ignited and exploring the lingering questions left in their wake to provide further insight from the brave voices who’ve spoken out previously and those who are coming forward again,” said Jason Sarlanis, president of TNT, TBS, TruTV, ID & HLN linear and streaming. Marc Summers: I walked out on Quiet on Set because directors pulled a "bait and switch" and “ambushed” me
The former Double Dare host told the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, in a pre-taped interview airing Friday, that he didn't know he was participating in a docuseries about toxic behavior at Nickelodeon when he agreed to sit down with the directors of Investigation Discovery's Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The four-episode docuseries focused on abuses taking place after Summers' 1986-1993 tenure, and Summers says he's never met the docuseries’ main focus: Dan Schneider. “They asked me what I thought of Nick, and the first 10 to 12 seconds, from what I understand, in this documentary is me saying all these wonderful things,” said Summers. “But they did a bait and switch on me. They ambushed me. They never told me what this documentary was really about. And so they showed me a video of something that I couldn’t believe was on Nickelodeon. And I said, ‘Well, let’s stop the tape right here. What are we doing?'” Summers added that he was told six weeks ago that he wouldn't be in the docuseries. But then four weeks ago he was told he'd only appear in the first part to discuss the positive aspects of Nickelodeon in its early days. “What they didn’t tell me — and they lied to me about — was the fact that they put in that other thing where they had the camera on me when they ambushed me," said Summers. "And so, now we get into a whole situation about who’s unethical.” In Quiet on Set, Summers can be seen watching a suggestive Nickelodeon clip on a phone, asking: “Did that air on Nickelodeon?” |

When you get the general picture child stars are usually the targets of TV networks to make millions and billions of dollars to help the networks make more money. As we have seen with Disney Channel sitcoms and original movies the child actors are usually cast in their sitcoms and movies to help make the sitcom or original movie a strong hit. Take a look at Hilary Duff who starred in Lizzie McGuire and she was the queen of Disney Channel and released music albums but after Lizzie McGuire was cancelled Hilary Duff had somewhat outgrew her teen audience and the same thing happened to Raven Symone when she joined Disney Channel at 16 after being absent since The Cosby Show's ending in 1992 and when That's So Raven debuted Raven became a rising star and she also released albums and was one of The Cheetah Girls. And speaking of The Cheetah Girls how they became a actual real group is beyond me because of the hit movie trilogy of The Cheetah Girls and you hardly ever saw The Cheetah Girls do few things for Disney and when High School Musical debuted we were introduced to Corbin Bleu Ashley Tisdale and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens and it seemed that the only stars that took off were Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale and you don't hear about Corbin Bleu anymore or Lucas Grabeel. But Nickelodeon has always promoted rising stars by choosing actors and actresses from commercials and when Dan Schneider came to Nickelodeon he came with a mission and that mission was to create new sitcoms and ideas for Nickelodeon by making child actors hit stars in his sitcom creations. Starting with ICarly he made Miranda Cogsgrove a big star and she became a singer as well. Happy with ICarly Dan went on to create Victorious which made stars out of Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande and Ariana Grande was Nickelodeon's biggest star and now is more popular than ever. Another thing that Dan Schneider did for Nickelodeon was to market his sitcom stars in Nickelodeon shows other than sitcoms which was putting them in celebrity editions of Nickelodeon game shows from the Liza Koshy Double Dare to Brainsurge and when you look at it I think Nickelodeon was trying to copy Disney Channel by having their own celebrity teen stars but if you were a child star avoid Nickelodeon. Because I think Nickelodeon gives teen and child stars little money for their sitcoms and they ruin their careers for good. And I think when Dan Schneider was running the show at Nickelodeon I think he had plans to secretly hope to someday become president of Nickelodeon
