Disney now has a showrunners "all-stars" lineup after closing Fox deal

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Disney Television Studios now boasts a deep bunch of showrunners, including Dan Fogelman, Steve Levitan, Seth MacFarlane, Alex Gansa, Lee Daniels, Kurt Sutter and Ilene Chaiken. Still, Disney could lose some of these showrunners -- MacFarlane and Fogelman's deals are up soon.

"New Fox" unveils a sizzle reel of its "new chapter" following the Disney-21st Century Fox merger

Scripted shows like The Simpsons and Empire and unscripted shows like The Masked Singer are featured in the sizzle reel on Fox Entertainment.

Disney closes its $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox

The deal that become official this morning transforms Disney from a "mere behemoth" into an "entertainment colossus the size of which the world has never seen," says Brooks Barnes. Disney CEO said Bob Iger, in an internal memo to his staff, said today was "a historic day for our company.” As Barnes explains, "Disney now owns most of Rupert Murdoch’s former empire, including the 20th Century Fox movie and television studio, which includes the X-Men, Avatar and Simpsons franchises; Blue Sky, the Ice Age animation studio that is based in Connecticut; the National Geographic and FX cable networks; most of the streaming service Hulu; and Star, a fast-growing television-service provider in India." The Fox assets will put Disney in better position to compete with Apple and other tech giants making aggressive moves in Hollywood. "Disney is now trying to become less dependent on cable channels like ESPN, which are in slow, steady decline owing to cord-cutting," says Barnes. "Instead, Disney has decided to move into the rapidly growing realm of online video, a direct-to-consumer business defined by Netflix. Mr. Iger believes that the Fox assets will enhance that plan, which includes a streaming service called Disney+ later this year." ALSO: The Simpsons boss Al Jean welcomed Disney with a tweet of Homer Simpson choking Mickey Mouse.

I’m still in shocked over the Disney-Fox deal but I suggest that merger will not last very long.

While it is not exactly clear, it seems to be not so much a merger, as an acquisition of certain 20th Century properties, which Disney now owns. Thus, and except for the cable regional sports networks previously owned by 20th Century Fox, such as YES, which Disney had to disinvest, because of its ownership of ESPN, Disney has not yet expressed any interest in selling off, what it did acquire from 20th Century Fox, which includes . . .

Fox Film Corporation, including the lease on the film and TV studio -- Fox Television Group -- Fox Networks Group International -- Blue Sky Studios -- 50% of Endomi Shine Group -- Fox's 30% of Hulu -- Star India -- and Fox's 30% of Tata Sky.

That is not to say that Disney will later sell off some of its acquistions from 20th Century Fox, but, as it did purchase these to better withstand the tech companies, such as Apple's, entry into entertainment. Any sell off is more likely to occur later than sooner.

Nooooooo! I can't stand Disney, pathetic. Even as a small kid, I thought Disney sucked. Never thought any of their characters were cool or entertaining, except for maybe Goofy. Family Guy is gonna be hit the hardest by this merger.

It’s time Family Guy was cancelled, anyway.

I didn't think we could be rid of this show for a long time. But with Seth McFarlane's deal coming to an end and FOX officially having new ownership, it would be nice if Disney decided to part ways with him and Family Guy.

Ugh, this is a revolting development. Repeats of the garbage known as Family Guy are coming to Disney owned Freeform in a few weeks. There goes that theory of it getting cancelled any time soon. Hopefully it doesn't cut down on what has been their ace The Middle any. At this point it looks like they just have one season of FG, but if it does well (may it be a big flop like HIMYM was), Freeform will probably get the whole series and this awful show will start taking over the network.
