Heeeeeeere's the 1st post in a looooooooooooong time! Hope ya like it......


"So....Are you ready for the big question?" Kaitlyn sighed.
"...Hit me with your best shot..." Jinny was almost certain she knew what the question was.
"....Why...did you give me up?"
"Well....I was only 16..and i needed to finish school..and I had dreams ,and i wasn't sure i could make them a reality,and take care of a kid.."Jinny looked at Kaitlyn,and wasn't quite sure how to read her expression"..not the way that a kid shud be taken care of..."
Kaitlyn had been waiting for that answer for a while,and now that she had gotten it she didn't know what to say or do..so she just nodded.
"I just wasn't ready to be a mother...and you deserved more then I could give you."Jinny was relieved,to finally get to tell her that.And let her know that the reason she gave her up wasn't at all because she didn't want her
Silence fell over the table,as they both got lost in their thoughts.

Kate walked into her office,and turned around to see Raina,CD & Nate pilling in right behind Magda.
"Is there somethin I can do for you guys?" She asked with a smirk.
"Yeah,start splainin' Lucy"Raina said.
"Yeah,what she said." CD agreed.
"Heh,I'm curious too,but i was mainly just following the crowd."Nate shrugged.
"Sorry guys..."Kate laughed" You'll just have to wait."
"Aww,Come on Cap,pleeeeease." Raina whined."How come you'll tell her,and ya won't tell us?"
"Because she's Jinny's best friend,and I don't think Jinny'll mind me telling her...now stop whining and get back to work."
"Fiiiine..." Raina sighed,and lead the train back out.
Kate shook her head,and began the story Magda had been waiting to hear.

Jinny sat there just starring at her daughter. Examining her features..her mannerisms...and comparing them to her own.
"What?" Kaitlyn asked, when she realized she was being watched.
"Oh,uh..nothin.."Jinny snapped out of her trance, "Sorry...It's just..amazing how much you look like me."She chuckled.
"Oh..." Kaitlyn smiled" Yeah..it's like looking in a mirror.

"...And Jinny gave her up for adoption."Kate sighed. She'd left out a couple of details she wanted to discuss with Jinny.
"I can't believe she never told me..."Magda shook her head.
"She was never fond of talking about it...it was very painful for her."
"I'd say so..."

"Well...I'm about to hit ya with another big question..." Kaitlyn washed down her pickle, with a big gulp of her chocolate and peanut butter milkshake. Watching her, Jinny remebered how she used to crave that all the time.
"Okay, but let me put my goggles on first." Jinny smirked.
Kaitlyn laughed,and began searching for the right words,"...Can you tell me about my father?"
"Uh,well...His name is Jeremy Schular...We dated in highschool...He was a year older then me...I never told him about you..."
"Why?"
"Well..I was going to,but I never got the chance before he went to see his dad...and,I had a few months to think about things,and i just thought it would be easier all around...not to tell him..."
Kaitlyn's cell phone began to ring,before she could think of what to say to Jinny. "That's my mom..."She said looking at the caller id.
"Hi,Mom.."She said into her phone," I uh...I just ran into a friend...I'll be home soon...ok,sorry...ok,I will...ok....I'll see ya later." She shut off her phone,and turned her attention back to Jinny. "She,uh..she knows I've been looking for you,she helped me.She just doesn't know I found you..I'm gonna tell her when I get home."She smiled. "I uh...I guess i should get going...."
"Okay...it was really...really,really,really,really nice to meet you."Jinny smiled.
"Yeah,you too."She laughed,"Can, I have you phone number?"
"Sure." Jinny grabbed a napkin and wrote,her cell,work and home number on it.While Kaitlyn did the same thing.
"Thanks a lot..."Kaitlyn said,folding the napkin,and putting it in the front pocket of her purse."..Bye..Jinny"
"Bye." Jinny sat there,and watched her daughter leave,before she got up,and walked back across the street to the division.

"So, how did things go?" Kate asked when she saw Jinny walk through the division doors,with a grin on her face.
Jinny didn't say anything,she motioned for her captain to follow her,and let herself into her office,shutting the door behind them.

Soooooo,wutcha think? do ya want more? Huh,huh,huh? lol And be honest!

"Cap, today was the greatest day of my life." Jinny said,sitting on the corner of Kate's desk. kate smiled and and sat down in the chair across from Jinny." She is just like me,She looks like me,she acts like me,she talks like me...gawd it was like lookin in a mirror!"
Kate just laughed,and let Jinny continue.She hadn't seen her this happy in a very very long time.
"We didn't talk much..i guess we both were kinda in shock..."Jinny chuckled "But,we exchanged phone numbers and she's gonna call me"
"Thats great,Jin."
"And she had two pickles,and a chocolate,and peanut butter milkshake with her lunch...thats exactly what i used to crave all the time."
Kate thought for a minute, "Yeah,I remember that." She said with a smile.

"Okay,Magda...lets have it..." Raina said,sliding in her chair over to Magda's desk.
"Have what?"
"You know what...now spill the beans"
"I'll give ya the short version,and thats it." Magda said.
"Fiiiine...."Raina rolled her eyes.
"Jinny,got pregnant when she was sixteen,decided she wasn't ready to be a mother,and gave the baby up for adoption."
"D@mn,you weren't kidding,when you said short were ya?...We pretty much figured all that out ourselves,Mag."
"Well,thats all your getting."
"Well,how come she never told you?"
"Because,Cap said she didn't like to talk about it,that it was really painful for her."
"Hw did Cap know about it?"
"She knew Jinny back then..now,will you please leave - -"
"She did?How?"
"Jinny's dad used to work here, so they worked together...,okay,now leave me alone!"
"Okay,okay,sheesh...since when do you not wanna gossip?" Raina said rolling back to her own desk.
"I do NOT gossip."
"Yeah,sure..and I CAN keep a secret."

"Well,I guess I had better get back to work...Thanks for listening to me babble..." Jinny said. She was still smiling,as she made her way to the door.
"My pleasure."Kate smiled. "Oh,uh...I explained things to Magda by the way..I hope that was okay..."
"Uh...,yeah I guess so..." Jinny nodded,and left her captain's office.

Magda and Jinny exchanged smiles,as Jinny sat down at her desk.
"I take it things went well....." Magda assumed.
"You take it right,my friend. "Jinny smiled.
"I'm glad,Jin." Magda smiled back.
"Me too,Mag,Me to."
"So,uh...Jinny..." Raina rolled her Chair over to Jinny's desk this time.
"So,uh...Raina..."
"Magda gave me the 1-2, on the subject,how's about you givin' me the 3 and 4? hmmm?"
"Raina have you no tact?"Cd laughed,at Raina's determination,to find out everything on the subject.
"When it comes to stuff this big...No."She admitted.
Jinny laughed," I'll think about it." She said,seizing the oppertunity to torture Her.
"I guess thats better then a 'no'..."Raina sighed,rolled her eyes,and rolled back over to her desk.


"Mom?!" Kaitlyn called out,as she entered her house.
'"I'm in the kitchen!" She yelled back.
"Well,can you come in the living room,I need to talk to you!?"
"Ok,What's up?" Her mother asked,as she entered the room.
"Sit down." Kaitlyn patted a space on the couch next to her.
"Is everything okay?" Her mother asked,doing as she was told.
"Yeah,everything is great..."
"Then,what's up?"
"I,uh...I met my birth mother today."
"You did?" Her mother asked in suprise.
"Yeah,see I finally found out her name,and i figured out where she worked,and i went there,yesturday,but she wasn't there. And her Captain,took a message,and i went back today..and that where I was,I was having lunch with her." Kaitlyn smiled from ear to ear.
"Her captain?"
"Yeah, She's a police inspector. And her name is Jinny Exstead..and gawd,Mom it was like lookin in a mirror. I look just like her."
Sara smiled at her daughter's excitement," Is She nice?"
"Yeah,she is...and she's really funny..and she was really happy to meet me,too...wich was a big relief." She laughed.
"So, i assume you're gonna get to know her,then..."
"Yeah, she gave me her home,her cell,and her work number."


Kate had intended to call Jinny that night after work...but,instead she procrastinated. Not knowing how exactly to say it to Jinny, she put it off,using the excuse,that it was better to talk to her about it in person.


When Jinny got home tha night,she was feeling nostalgic,so she changed into something more comfortable,and dug out all her family photos. She came acroos one that she had put way in the bottom of the suprisingly large box. It was one of her when she was about 7 or 8 months pregnant,and showing very well. The resemblance between herself,and Kaitlyn became even more amazing as she starred at that picture,and started to think back to that day.......

"D@mn it Casey! No you can NOT take pictures of of the birth,as you school science project! Now get that d@mn camera outta my face,and go bug John!"
"Okay,sheesh...ugh! pregnant women!" Casey threw his hands in the air,as he jogged up the stairs.
"Want a beer?" John asked his fellow officer,who was kind enough to give him a ride home.,completely ignoring his daughter,and the fighting gong on around him.
"Uh,yeah..sure.." She said sitting down "So,how are you?"
"Miserable. my little brother,wants 2 take pictures of my naked tush,while a baby is coming out of it.So he can show it to his stupid
class. my older brother,has changed my name to Shamoo,and somebody is doing the tango on my bladder."Jinny said looking down at her rather large belly."
"You're the one that went and got yourself into this mess." John Sr. finale aknowledged his daughter,stretched out on the couch.
"Sit up,ang give me some room." He handed a beer to the redhead sitting in the recliner.
"ugh, thats easier said then done." Jinny said,as she tried to sit up, "A little help here,I'm doing this for you after all!"She snapped when he didn't offer her help.
"Don't you use that tone of voice with me!" He snapped back,reaching out his hand for her. "You may not be in best of comfort right now, but it's not my fault,you went out got yourself knocked up! You're the one that was dumb enough not to use a d@mn condom!"
With that,Jinny hoisted herself up off the couch,and made her way up stairs,holding back tears,she refused to cry in front of him.
"What?!" He asked,when he saw the stern judging look,on Officer McCafferty's face.
"You son of a bitch! How could you say something like that to her!?! She is your daughter,for crying out loud! She need syou right now!" Normally she wouldn't have butted in,but this was one time she had to cross the line.
"You just mind your own business,this is between me and my daughter!"
"No,not this time! Okay,yes she made a mistake! But she's already learning from it! She doesn't need you to punish her for it,She's probably already doing that herself! She is about to give birth to a child,and she is still one herself! She is most likely terrified! She needs her father's support!"
"If you care so much,you suport her!"
"I already am!, but it can't compare to the support she should be getting from you! Gawd,how the hell did you get so stupid and ignorant?!" She slammed her beer down on the table,as she stood up.
"Kate, I think it's time for you to leave." John said coldly.
"Yeah,I think you're right about that." She said,and walked over to the stairs.
"When Jinny saw,her coming she rushed to her bedroom,so that she wouldn't knwo she was listening.
"Jinny,can I come in?" Kate said,knocking on Jinny's open door.
"The door's open."
"Hey, I'm gonna go pick up my daughter from daycare,Come with me,and we'll go get some ice cream or somethin'."
"Nah,that's okay.."Jinny ran her hand threw her hair.
"I'm not taking 'nah' for an answer.Come on,don't cha wanna get away from these idiots for a while?"
"Okay,I'll get my purse."
"Ya don't need it,it's my treat." Kate smiled.

When Jinny was pulled outof her thoughts, she had tears streaming down her cheeks. She wiped them away,and answerred her ringing phone. "Exstead...Oh,Hi,Katie...no,this is a great time..." She smiled.

Like I said,I luuuuuv Iced coffee !

"A...are you sure?..." Kaitlyn asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure...I was just looking through some old family photos...thats all." Jinny wiped more tears away.
"Oh..."Kaitlyn was very interested in seeing those pictures,but she didn't know how to ask Jinny...or if she even should.
"So..how are you?" Jinny asked.
"I'm good...I'd be better if a certain somebody would stop kickboxing my kidneys..."
"You used to do that to me."
"I did?" Kaitlyn smiled.
"Yep..it seemed like you never stopped moving.."Jinny laughed.Back then it often annoyed her,but now...She remember it as the greatest feeling in the world..at least to her anyways," once I bent over and you got your head up behind my ribs...and absolutely refused to move..I was stuck like that for ten or fifteen minutes,before finally decided to move."
"Aww...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to..."She laughed.
"apology excepted."Jinny smiled.
"Listen,I was thinkin'...if it's okay, that i might come by your work,after school tomorow..."
"Oh..yeah, thats fine."
"You're sure you won't be busy?"
"I'll make a point of not being."
"Okay...kewl..."Kaitlyn smiled. Silence settled over the phone line for a moment.
"Hey...uh..if you want i can bring some pictures to work tomorrow...if you want to see them..."Jinny offered.
"That would be great,I'd love that...I can bring some pictures to..if you - -"
"I'd love that."


Kate was stretched on her couch,trying to read her book,but she just couldn't get into it. She was too distracted.
"You should have called her."She told herself looking over at the phone."Nah..you should talk to her in person...Maybe you should just wait till she tells you,then tell her...You shoulda told her 5 years ago,when Casey told you...You should definately stop talking to yourself." She rolled her eyes at herself.Looking around the room,lit by on lamp, Her eyes landed on the upright piano standing in the corner of her living room,which she hadn't plunked anything out on,in a while. "What the hell." She tossed her book onto the coffee table,and went over to the paino. She sat down on the bench,and just starred at the keys. She remembered teaching Casey to play 'Rock A By,Baby' because he wanted to play it for Jinny.....

"D@mn it!" Casey snapped in frustration.
"Watch your mouth.."
"Sorry."
"Now just try again..,you're doing good."Kate stood watching Casey play over his shoulder.
"What the hell is that racket?!" John Jr. yelled down the stairs.
"It's not racket! It's the piano!"Kate yelled back.
"Well, who's playin it?A drunk cat?!"
"John close your mouth!" Casey yelled.

John was right. He did sound like a drunk cat,She thought,with a laugh.And began playing the song she'd taught Casey...

"Ooohhh, It's Casey,okay that explains the racket."John said walking halfway down the stairs.
"Nobody asked for your opinion,John!"
"That makes it more fun to give!"
"John, go away!" She gave him a look that could kill.
"And if I don't,are ya gonna spank me?"He asked, enthusiastically.He knew she wouldn't,he mainly said it just to piss her off even more.
"You disgusting,perverted,little son of a bi- -"
"Watch you mouth, Officer Red!" He cackled,running back up stairs.
Kate started to go after him,but Casey grabbed her arm,"Don't waist your time,He wants you to go after him."

...Casey never did play the song for Jinny,He decided he couldn't play it good enough.So Kate ended up playing it instead. But he did put on his list of things to do before he dies: # 14 Learn to play that stupid song for Jinny.


"well,I gotta go, I was supposed to have gone to bed like an hour ago.."Kaitlyn yawned.
"Okay...wow is it really that late?" Jinny asked looking at her clock wich read 1:05 am.
"Yep." Kaitlyn laughed.
"Well,I'll se ya tomorrow."
"Okay, Goodnight, Jinny."
"Goodnight." Jinny yawned,as she hang up the phone.


It was now almost 3:15,and there wasn't really any chit chat,everyone was concentrating on their cases. Except Jinny,who was so deep in thought,it was almost a trance. "Oh, Mary mother of g- -...Nate!" Jinny broke the silence in the room.
"My Mom's name is Marilyn." Nate said.
"Somethin wrong,Jin?" Cd,rolled her eyes at Nate.
"I'm gonna be a freakin' grandmother!"
"And,you just now realized this?"Magda held back her laughter.
"Yes!...I'm to young to be a grandmother!"
"Apperently not." Magda,and everyone else chuckled.
"Will stop laughing! This is serious! This could mean the end of the dating game for me!Who wants to date a grandmother?!"
"Oh,stop whining! I'm the one thats gonna be a great grandmother!..Oh Dear lord,I'm gonna be a great grandmother!" It wasn't till Kate said it that it really hit her,and soon after she realized she was a great grandmother,she realized she had let the cat outta the bag. She and Jinny starred at eachother for a moment.
"You,me,your office,now." Jinny said,getting up and going into Kate's office.
"Heh,yeah I was thinkin the same thing." Kate said,following Jinny.
"What the hell was that about? Magda asked.

"Five years ago..."
"You've known for five years?! Why the hell didn't you tell me?!?"
"I..I don't know..I guess I was waitng for you to tell me or somethin."Kate shrugged ".Casey told me everything he knows,so my questions were answered,i guess I didn't wanna bring it back up for you.."
"Gawd,I can't believe you've known for five freaking years"Jinny mumbled more to herself then Kate.
" I can't believe i've only known for five freakin years."
"I..I'm sorry..I should have, I was gonna...I was afraid to..."
"I know...Casey told me...."
"Does Jeremy know?"
"No,I don't think so..."

Just a few minutes after Jinny and Kate went into Kate's office,Kaitlyn walked in. Her back pack was hanging on her right shoulder,and a photo album wedged under her left arm.
Jinny was nowhere in sight,so She sat her things on Jinny's desk,and turned to Magda,but before she could get a word out of her mouth Raina practically skipped over to her,"Hi,You must be Kaitlyn,I'm Raina.." She held out her hand.
"Uh..Hi,Raina.." Kaitlyn,looking completely confused,shook Raina's hand.
"Raina, go put these away,for me please.."Magda handed her a stack of files,that she had intended to put away herself.but she figured if She didn't get Raina busy quick,she'd probably hit Kaitlyn with about a thousand questions that really weren't any of her business.
"Okay.."Raina rolled her eyes" I'll be right back,don't you go anywhere."She said to Kaitlyn as she walked off.
"Wow, she's uh...friendly.."Kaitlyn chuckled.
"Yeah,and nosey too." Magda rolled her eyes.
"Is Inspector Exstead here?"
"yeah, but.."Magda looked into her Captain's office,to see Jinny pacing and obviously yelling about something, "She's in a meeting with the captain right now."
"Oh..is it okay if i wait?"
"Oh,yeah sure,have a seat..She'll probably be out soon."
"Thanks" Kaitlyn made herself comfortable in Jinny's chair.
"I'm Magda, Jinny's partner, by the way.."Magda held out her hand.
"Hi, my name's Katie.."She said shaking Magda's hand,
"Yeah, Jinny's talked about you all day."She smiled. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too"
"Okay,sorry about that." Raina said giving Magda a dirty look,and sitting on the corner of Jinny's desk. "So how are you?"
"I'm good,and yourself?" Kaitlyn replied.
"Oh i'm great." Raina smiled. "So,uh..."

"So...do I get t be formally introduced to my grand daughter" Kate asked breaking the silence that had settled over the room
"Yeah...sure..."Jinny grinned,"but,uh..let me talk to her first..okay?"
"That's fine.." Kate looked out the window of her office," Here's..your chance..."
Jinny turned around,and looked where Kate was pointing. with a smile she walked out,without saying anything,Kate close behind her.

"Hey,Raina, I have some files on my desk ,that need to be put away, would you please?" Kate smiled ever so sweetly.
"Yeah, sure..."Raina rolled her eyes and went about her asigned errand.
'Please excuse Raina..she's...well she's unexplain able." Jinny sat down on the corner of her desk.
"I heard that."Raina raised her eyebrow,as she made her way to the observation room,where the filing cabinet was located.
"Oh,You know we love ya!" Magda joked.
"Otherwise,she'd be dead by now." Jinny mumbled. Then she turned her focus to her daughter," Hi,how are you?"
"I'm good...I uh,brought the pictures."She smiled.
"Great, i brought mine too." then Kate elbowed Jinny. "But,uh..first,there's something I wanna talk to you about.."She held out her hand,to help Kaitlyn up.
"Mind,if we borrow your office,Cap?"
"Nope,go right ahead."She smiled.
"What is she talking to her about?" Magda asked,once they were inside Kate's office,with the door shut.
"I dunno."
"Yes,you do." Magda smirked,but didn't push the interrogation any further.

K,it took me a lil longer then 5 ,minutes this time lol but i wasn't on Iced Coffee,wich is why it sucks,

Kate was sitting at Jinny's desk, trying not to look into her office too much,but she couldn't help it.
Magda sat at her desk pretending to work.But was really watching what was going on in Kate's office,and watching Kate watching what was going in her office,with growing curiosity. Magda's curiosity peaked as she watched Kate looked up eagerly,when she heard her office door open.
"Hey, Cap..."Jinny motioned for her to come in.
Kate got up,and followed Jinny back into her office,with a smile on her face.

Jinny shut the door behind them,and then turned to face her daughter,and captain.
"Katie,this is your grandmother,Kaitlyn McCafferty..."She smiled. "Cap,this is your grandaughter,Kaitlyn Harris."
"Hehe,wow what a small world."Kaitlyn laughed,holding out her hand.
"Oh,yeah.."Kate shook her hand.
"It's very nice to meet you...Captain..."

Kaitlyn flashed great big smile,very similar to Jinny's,when Jinny stuck her tongue out her.


"What do you think is going on?"Raina asked, CD & Magda who were sitting on her desk,descretely watching the goings on in Kate's office.
"I have no idea." Magda replied.
"I wanna know what Cap ment when she said : I'm the one thats going to be a great grandmother." CD added.
"Yeah..." And then Raina's eyes widened,when an idea struck her,"...Nah..."
"What?" They asked her.
"Nothin,nevermind...it's nothin,,just a crazy idea I had.."
"No tell us."
'Well,i mean...think about it...Jinny was whinning about bein' a grandmother,and then Cap said she was gonn abe a great grandmother...and Jinny ordered her into her office,and Jinny yelled about somethin'...and then Kaitlyn came,and they went and talked for a little bit,and then Jinny asked Cap to come in..."
"So what are you saying...?" CD asked.
"...And Cap seemed pretty eager to get in there..."Magda added to the list of odd behavior.
"..Yeah,and i'm saying...Maybe Cap is Kaitlyn's baby's great grand mother,and uh..Kaitlyn's..."
"Raina,Dear...you have just topped yourself...that is the craziest idea to come out of your head yet."CD looked at Raina like she were crazy.
"CD,I can't believe you.I never figured you for a gossip."Nate said smirking. "Get over here,and help me with our case...and Raina,Magda..you mind your own business to."
"Yes,Daddy." Magda said,going back to her desk.
"No,Daddy." Raina replied,and continued her snooping,until she saw that they were coming out.
"Hey,we're gonna go get some lunch...you want us to bring you back anything?" Jinny offered,grabbing her jacket,and putting it on.
"No thanks..."Everyone replied almost in unison.
"OKay,see ya later." Jinny replied. Kaitlyn grabbed her things off Jinny's desk,and the three of them left.
CD,Raina,and Magda all exchanged looks,"Nah..." They all shook their heads,and went back to work.
