ISTR Nick at Nite doing a piece on this fact. It said the final episode aired March 8, 1974, and President Nixon resigned August 8, 1974. Same day of the month.

But it was the same day in a different month, so I still don't see the connection

The day of Nixon's resignation and the cancellation of Brady Bunch were much closer together.

I have two questions:

Did the Bradys vote for Nixon?

Did Nixon watch 'The Brady Bunch'?

I think we could say that the resignation of Richard Nixon and the cancellation of the Brady Bunch, happening at about the same time, both represent a kind of loss of innocence. This was especially poignant for me since I was 11 at the time so Friday nights were all about Brady Bunch, the start of the new season kinda made up for having to go back to school, and Nixon was the only president I had known.

There doesn't have to a "connection" between TBB and Nixon's presidency to just notice that they were close in time and credited in the same years. Mr. Obama is the first president younger than I am-- that's a bit interesting to me, but it doesn't mean there is any connection between him and me (but I won't talk politics here ). So I don't think all these posts of "So, what's the connection?" are very kind. It's trivia-- which is really what this board is about, anyway. It's not news of vital importance.

I don't think it had really occurred to me that Nixon was the only U.S. President during TBB's original run, but it had occurred that he was, and remains, the only president in office at the time another human walked on a planet or natural satellite beside our earth. But, of course, he's not known as the Space President or the Moon President; rather the Watergate President or the crook who got pardoned.

The Brady Bunch and Nixon do not exactly compare to the Civil War and Lincoln. But it's no misdemeanor to bring the subject up, either.

It's not well-known, but President Nixon did indeed order the cancellation of "The Brady Bunch" in the spring of 1974. The Bunch had started subtlety inserting satire commenting on the Nixon administration into their episodes. For example, Peter began to secretly tape record his siblings's conversations ("The Private Ear"), Greg considered "dirty tricks" in his effort to defeat Marcia for Student Body President ("Vote for Brady"), Marcia and Greg both revealed that they had enemies lists ("My Sister, Benedict Arnold"), Mike Brady decided to favor violence over negotiation ("A Fistful of Reasons"), the kids got involved in a cover-up ("Confessions, Confessions") and Alice began making cracks about the price of meat (various episodes).

ABC was more than happy to comply with Nixon's orders, because the ratings were trending down a bit, and the actors' contracts were up for renewal, so a sixth season would have been more expensive to produce.

You do realize, do you not, that serveral of those episodes were very early in the series, before Watergate came out?

"Vote For Brady" was from 12/12/69, "A Fistful of Reasons" was from 11/13/70, "Confessions, Confessions" was from 12/18/70, and "My Sister, Benedict Arnold" was from 10/15/71, which were filmed before those dates I listed, much less the Watergate break-in itself, which happened in June 1972.

You should be banned for lacking a sense of humor. I've been posting for 10 years here without any problem. Do me a favor and don't respond to my posts anymore. You completely suck the fun out of participating on these boards.

Sense of humor about what? How you LIE about Richard Nixon ordering the cancellation of The Brady Bunch? Sorry, but your LIES are not humorous.

That post was meant to be ridiculous. I'm shocked that some people actually took it seriously. I was having fun with the fact that there are some coincidences in terms of themes on the Brady Bunch and the craziness that occurred in American politics just a short time later. If you didn't find it funny, that's your problem, not mine. I think Solomon's call to have me banned is what's ridiculous.

Your attempt at humor was very poor.
