Okay, I know this is an old post, but I read it, and wanted to reply.
I think The 90's were the best. The 70's had the most groundbreaking sitcoms, which I can't really stand. I hate the 80's sitcoms except for Perfect Strangers and ALF. The 90's gave us my favorite show "NewsRadio". Also, Wings, Boy Meets World, Ned and Stacey, Step By Step, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Ellen. |

The 1970s were the best among the three, by far. There are only two shows I still watch today from the 1980s and 1990s (not counting the Brady spinoffs)--Perfect Strangers and The Wonder Years.
In the 1970s one could enjoy The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Taxi, and The Waltons during their years of production. Of course, all but one of those shows were still being made during the 1980s. |

I must vote for the 70s, since my favorite shows are of that decade (see profile), although I can't completely rule out the 80s.
During the 70s, there were 3 networks and cable wasn't widely available for most of the decade. And yet, every channel had something good to watch almost every night. It was difficult for me to decide what to watch and what to miss! (No VCR, yet.) ![]() Now there are anywhere from 100 - 400 channels, depending on type of service, and there's NOTHING TO WATCH! A few shows start out on a promising note and quickly lose my interest. (Pssst! Many just rehash stories and ideas from older shows.) Give me oldies/classics (on TV Land, for example) and documentaries (Discovery, History Channel, etc.), but bag the 90s. |

The 70's and 80's. Most of my favorite shows come from those decades.

The 70's and 80's tie. A lot of great shows came out of those decades. The only shows in the 90's I like are the ones that premiered in the early 90's, like Step By Step, Fresh Prince, Home Improvement, Grace Under Fire, and some short-lived sitcoms like Nurses and The Mommies.
What I think sucks about late 90's to today's sitcoms is that they are too hardcore and so not funny. All I have to say is thank goodness for Game Show Network, N@N, TV Land, and TV shows on DVD. |

The 70's and 80's were both very good decades for sitcoms. If I'm forced to choose, I'd say the 80's.

I'd have to say the 80's, I think overall there were a lot of good sitcoms. The 90's had great sitcoms too.

I vote for the '60s! So many good shows, it would have been a problem what to watch (because many were on at the same time)...
Bewitched, Gomer Pyle, Andy Griffith Show, Gilligan's Island, I Dream Of Jeannie, Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, F-Troop, That Girl, Get Smart, Flipper, Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Brady Bunch, etc. I like the '70s very much, too. Again, there was a lot to choose from. |
