I think that, arguably, one of the most famous "old-young" couples are Celine Dion and her manager René Angélil.

They first met when she was 13 and they started a relationship when she was 17.

At the time of the marriage in 1994, Dion was 26 and he was 59.

I remember at the time that a lot of people were saying how much they thought this was bizarre when the marriage happened.

I guess as long as both partners are of legal age I really have no issue with it. Couples with great age differences face special challenges, but so do couples of different races, religions, economic standing, and same sex partners. It isn't easy for anyone, and I think in general our society needs to kind of get over the Puritanical finger pointing when it comes to great age differences. If you are the older man, you are a "sugar daddy" and if you are the older female, you are "robbing the cradle" (though it does seem we are more accepting of the older man/younger woman dynamic.) It's all close minded silliness and ultimately, nobody's business but the couple's.

But as I say, when one of the partners is a minor, it kind of raises some alarm bells. I hope for the best for this couple, but I think they have a very rough road ahead and I worry about exploitation of the girl's naivete.

They could use Benny Mardones' "Into the Night" as their theme song. You know, the one that begins, "She's only 16 years old..."

They're still married, though aren't they? This I can see because they did have a long relationship beforehand. I didn't realize that she was 26 when they married, though.

But the marriage in question... now THAT sickens me! There was a segment on CNN the other night about that marriage and the "girl" was such a ditz, the way she was talking. Yeah, let's see how long THIS marriage lasts! What in God's name could a 51 year old possibly have with a 16 year old? And I'm talking about interests other than what's probably going through everyone's mind!

Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson Split, Prove That Love is Dead Forever
11/1/13

Courtney Stodden, 19, and Doug Hutchinson, 53, are ending their three-year relationship, according to Radar online. Sources told the tabloid that the child bride is "heartbroken" since "busting out" of her marriage.

After receiving parental permission to tie the knot in May 2011 at the age of 16, Stodden and Hutchinson appeared on the reality television show "Couples Therapy" to defend their controversial relationship.

Additional sources attributed the break up to Stodden's growing publicity, saying, "Doug knew he was taking a risk with the marriage, but he genuinely fell in love with Courtney and didn’t realize how much his life would be changed after they got married."

Hollywood Life reports that Stodden has not been seen with Hutchinson since October 2nd, after she went under the knife to achieve those elusive double Ds.

Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson Engaged (Again)
Aug 12, 2014
by Robyn Ross

Courtney Stodden and her estranged husband Doug Hutchinson have reconciled, her mother tells Fox News.

"Courtney realized just how much love she really had for Doug," Krista Keller said. "They really love each other and wanted to be together."

Stodden, just 16 at the time, married the "Lost" actor in 2011.

"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the couple said at the time. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out that true love can be ageless."

The couple, now 19 and 54, respectively, soon appeared on the second season of "Couples Therapy", but were kicked off when Stodden refused to cover up in the house.

Stodden most recently appeared on "Celebrity Big Brother" in the U.K. They separated in November.

On Monday night, Stodden tweeted the news, saying:

"Thank you everyone for all your sweet congratulations msgs, love & support! It means so much #kudos2love"
