SO Interview [pt 2]: Mikado (Week 6)

What is your Favorite childhood memory?
Strangely the best day in my childhood that I can recall was my first trip to the city dump! Me and my friend Jackie (Who was a girl my own age , who lived next door at the time) found a bunch of refridgerator crates and spent the next 20 or 30 mins running in and out of them.....

And heres the proof, Dad apparently brought the camera that day, and here's Jackie and I playing in one of the refridgerator crates that day

No doubt about it, hockey is Canada's #1 favorite sport (although Lacrosse is our OFFICIAL "national sport"), they say there's more hockey arenas in Ontario than in all of Europe put together (and Europeans also love hockey); most kids here learn to ice skate as soon as they can walk.(In winter, when Americans are watching basketball on TV, it barely makes any ratings here)
Curling is probably Canada's 3rd most watched sport (after hockey and football) and second most played (after hockey)...most towns in Canada have either a curling rink next door to the hockey arena (they share ice making machines) or the rinks have the markings for both sports on the SAME ice surface, in the smaller towns. (Personally, I hate curling but, my parents and brother love it)

Have you ever played Curling?

No, can't stand it, too slow for my taste (same goes for football)

What sports (other than Hockey and Curling) would you love to see the Corner Gas cast play?

Well, i'm not much of a sports fan but, perhaps the girls could play tennis in those short outfits...."Hey Lacey, want to pick up that ball by the net, please?"

How did you learn to cook?

Well, Mom gave me a few basics but, mainly, i had to learn to cook or starve, and frankly, while "Mac & Cheese" (or KD as its called here) may be fine for some bachelors, I like to eat REAL food, so, I kept at it, and after 3 years, learned the secret of timing. Since then, i have the confidence to keep experimenting with new flavours and ideas. (I also watch "Restaurant Makeover" fairly regularly and get ideas from there, too)

Okay, I think I have a question for you, Mikey. As someone who is Canadian and knows their history and politics, what is your opinion of America during the new millennium. Also ,what is your opinion on President Bush?

Well, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers I'll try to be honest but fair...

My opinion of the USA is that its a country that sincerly wants to do good, but, lets its "self-interests" get in the way sometimes, making their good intentions backfire. I personally love Americans (as people), just not their gvmt or foreign policy.

Bush is a terrible president, I could explain why but, for reasons of my own, I have more or less decided not to be too political in SO. (If you want to know more Mike, just pm me )

Hmm, The thing with Welland is we are surrounded by places much more in the "tourist" vein than anything here in town (Such as Niagara Falls, several forts and 2 great lakes), but, if I had to show the city itself, the best place to start would be downtown by the library, where you have the old channel of the canal, Welland river, the 150 year old stonecut aqueduct, the 1856 courthouse, and of course the bridge in my avatar, then, id take you down the street a few miles to the new canal channel (incl the large traffic tunnel under the canal) and finally, wed go west to the Seaway Mall for an A&W root Beer

are you more of a sweet or savory person when it comes to food?

I'm not really sure what savory means , pertaining to food, but, I dont have much of a sweet tooth, so i'll go with that

I'm not really into celebs.....Maybe Brent Butt and Gabrielle Miller cause I love the show, other than that, I cant really think of anyone

who are your favourite 3 canadians of all-time- be it celebrities, politicians, whoever?

#1 William H Merritt (1793-1862)-War hero (1812 war) and the man who promoted and built the first 2 Welland Canals , Canada's first international train bridge and promoted other canal and railway projects in the 1800s; who sadly, is virtually unknown in the rest of Canada despite being the Father of Canadian transportation.

#2 Pierre Elliot Trudeau (1919-2000)- Former Canadian Prime Minister and my political mentor in many ways

#3 Pierre Berton (1920-2004)- Canadian TV/radio personality, storyteller and Canada's foremost "popular" historian. His books such as The last Spike (About the Canadian Pacific RR) & Flames Across the Border (War of 1812) were as exciting to read as any novel and more so, because they were all true; he was my favorite author and It saddens me that his pen is forever stilled

I loved elementary school but, i am math dyslexic* and the more i needed math skills (for science, for examp), the harder it became for me. I also had a hard time in social situations; i think id have done better, had i been home schooled. I loved history, and languages (we had both French and English lessons) and hated math with a passion!
