Depeche Mode - your faves?

I actually have a cassette recorded from the radio when "Everything Counts" was the single at the time.

I saw the Black Celebration tour- had orchestra seats at Radio City Music Hall- pretty good show, not great.

But right around that time I was lucky- I saw Tears For Fears (Songs From the Big Chair Tour) and The Cure (The Head on the Door tour) also at Radio City Music Hall - both orchestra seats as well and they were both amazing shows.

I'm pretty much dating myself here.

Anyway, my favorite album of Depeche Mode was Some Great Reward, but now I think it's pretty close between that and Songs of Faith & Devotion.
Unlike a lot of folk, Violator is not my favorite.

wow, I had no idea Everything Counts got airplay as a current single. I've always been led to believe that they had absolutely no airplay in America until People Are People came out. That must've been great seeing them in 1986, since they were on such a roll at the time and they hadn't yet crossed over to overplaying yet.

I can sort of understand why Violator isn't your fave if you're a huge huge fan. It's much like how as a Prince and David Bowie fan, I think there are far better albums for each of them than Purple Rain and Ziggy Stardust, even tho those are the albums everyone adores

This radio station was an alternative station (WLIR- in New York) that played all current released alternative music (and alt music in general). If The Smiths released a new album and single, they would play it. Mainstream radio avoided most alternative singles until- it seemed- MTV made it catch on.
